Summary of project results

The project “School prepares active citizens” was designed to increase the intercultural

dialogue, to make teaching a culture of democracy and to give young people all the tools they need to acquire the skills to build a pluralistic society based on solidarity, emocratic values and human rights and to live together as active and responsible citizens. It is not possible to acquire these skills without quality education in democratic citizenship, human rights and intercultural dialogue.

This project was necessary due to the following identified issues:

- The insufficient number of teacher trainers with advanced skills in the field of democracy, human rights, citizenship and inclusiveness

- The need of diversification of the training offer of The Teachers Training Centre of Timis County in the fields of democracy, human rights, citizenship and inclusiveness, with innovative and specific programmes

- The need for correlation between teacher training and the development of students' skills in the fields of democracy, human rights, citizenship and inclusiveness.

The project started with the participation of four teachers from The Teachers Training Centre of Timis County in the course „Assessment for learning. Creative and diverse assessment methods for education in the 21st century”, organized by Intercultural Iceland.

Follow-up activities, designed to enhance the skills developed during mobility, included:

- The design and accreditation by the Ministry of Education of two new training programmes:

”Inclusion and interculturality in the Romanian school” and ”Romanian School – a safe

school, a non-violent space”

- Training activities for 28 trainers and 104 teachers (through 4 training programs)

- Educational activities with students from 20 schools in the fields of democracy, human

rights, citizenship and inclusiveness

- Development of educational resources in the fields of democracy, human rights, citizenship and inclusiveness

As a result of these activities, The Teachers Training Centre of Timis County increased the number of collaborators – trainers with skills on the field of education for democracy, has diversified its training offer with 2 new programs, developed the civic skills of teachers and students, experienced the evaluation of the impact of training programs through the activities carried out by teachers with students.
