Description

The Foundation of Children in Distress implements the project together with 5 schools from Arges County rural area. Over 82% of families rely on social benefits and are engaged in farming and livestock as means of support. Their pupils face geographical segregation as they attend separate nursery and elementary school in facilities in social-economically challenged areas.

The project provides:

  • non-formal education for 200 Roma and Non-Roma students with adaptation and integration issues
  • awareness and counseling services for 70 Roma and non-Roma parents to understand the importance of children’s education and improve relationship with schools
  • training for 70 teachers to develop knowledge and skills concerning student-centered teaching methods in a multicultural environment.
  • 6 educational materials are elaborated for partnerschools to develop their multicultural environment.

Summary of project results

In the project, the five partner schools from the Arges County increased their institutional capacity to ensure effective inclusion and quality education of Roma pupils by:

- training 76 teachers in the field of inclusive schools, out of whom 98.68% declared an improvement of their competencies

- 6 new curricula on inclusiveness and multicultural environment were elaborated,

- involving 70 Roma and non-Roma parents in educational activities on discrimination,

- involving 250 Roma and non-Roma pupils in extra-curricular activities on inclusion. 100% of the pupils participating in the project were satisfied of taking part in the activities. Discrimination perceived by pupils in the partner schools decreased at the end (compared to the start) of the project.
