Summary of project results

In the report by I.S.J. Olt, in the SWOT analysis for the last two school years, we found the following weaknesses in Olt county schools: a big difference between the practical needs of the students and the excessively theoretical knowledge they receive, the situation leading to the increased risk of early school dropout due to the lack of interest for the instructional-educational process for placing the student in the centre of attention; low skills and abilities of many teachers in carrying out interdisciplinary projects and introducing topics related to democracy, citizenship and human rights; lack of courses related to democracy, citizenship and human rights. There are no specializations in human rights and school democracy in universities or the construction of interdisciplinary projects; the increased phenomenon of bullying in the county schools which led to the increased risk of early school leaving due to socio-economic reasons or physical appearance of the students from rural areas.
To improve the situation, the management of I.S.J. Olt found the necessary opportunities: three school inspectors attended the Building Democratic School Cultures course at The Wergeland European Center, Oslo, Norway. As a result of their mobility, they have substantially improved their managerial skills and abilities regarding EDH / HRE in accordance with national and/or European priorities.
- four school inspectors attended the "The Teacher as a Change Agent" course at Newschool AS, Oslo, Norway. As a result of their mobility, they gained new knowledge and improved their skills and competences in facilitating techniques and human rights, the management of conflict and leadership.
Following the activities described above, seven school inspectors and over 150 teachers have improved their skills in democratic school culture, citizenship, human rights and facilitation techniques.
Another result was the publication as an open educational resource of the proposed intervention methodology entitled "Handbook for building the school democratic culture with the teacher as an agent of change".
