Description

Context/background of project: Education systems have been historically and remain the most important institution for strengthening social cohesion. But how can education systems become more inclusive and equitable? In an increasingly complex and diverse world, learning how to work with each other in a democratic manner must start in education.

THE AIM: to increase the quality of education in the schools from Iasi county, designing the profile of the democratic school, based on citizenship, human rights, inclusion and leadership.

THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE: to improve the institutional needs of the County School inspectorate of Iasi through 2 training programmes, where 9 school inspectors who are in a position to innovate the traditional teaching process and contribute to the educational management process, increase the quality of education in schools regionally and even nationally.

THE SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES are:

• To increase with10%, starting the school year 2018-2019 the number of schools with an inclusive and creative learning environment, with the help of 5 school inspectors trained in an intensive 7-day training course on inclusion techniques

• To increase with 10%, starting the school year 2018-2019 the number of schools with an innovative leadership offer, with the help  of 4 school inspectors attended  in an intensive 5-day training programme

• To increase with20%, starting with the school year 2018-2019 of the number of schools which will adopt and apply the concept of democratic schools.

Achieving the proposed objectives is possible through the participation of 9 school inspectors in two training programs in the donor states - Iceland and Norway and then multiplying the acquisitions acquired in the county schools through specific activities by the participants together with the other members of ISJ Iasi.

Summary of project results

Our project is constituted as response to the needs of the county schools, identified by ISJ Iași inspectors during the thematic and general inspections: insufficient concern for attracting Roma children to kindergarten; not using all the modalities of collaboration with the parents of the Roma children;  managers and teachers are reluctanced to change; absenteism and school dropout, especially in units in areas populated with Roma; the non-involvement of the teachers in their own professional development, as well as in the educational and decision-making act; poor information flow between the inspectorate and the rural school units, between the managers, teachers and parents or between teachers, students and parents; deficiencies in the functioning of the organizational culture of some schools; resistance to change and conservatism for teachers; practicing in some schools an improvised, unprofessional management; inertia, routine supported by the poor motivation of some teachers to reach professional standards. The results obtained are complex and diverse, with a large footprint in time and space for the participants, the institutions involved and the schools in the county: * As tangible results: collections of models to solve the problem of segregation, 9 recognition certificates -9 Europass documents, a good practice guide "Let''s be the change!" realized by participants and distributed online, the collection of personal examples "I am the change agent" - accessible here. * As intangible results: a new approach to the problems of inclusion, a new model of an inclusive and democratic school, 2 "change teams" (5 + 4) that support the practice of the competences necessary for the implementation of innovative practices in their own institutions and of the schools in region, a favorable opinion on the activities carried out by ISJ Iași, a state of synergy in the county schools, the increase of interest for the EEA grant program, the development of a school ethos including in the educational units in Iași county, the improvement of the participants'' language skills. As a result of the implementation of the project, the number of schools with concern for an inclusive and creative learning environment, for the awareness of the implementation of a modern, innovative leadership, visible aspects during the thematic and general inspections, in the activity reports of the principals has increased.
