Description
The Mobility Project between the Polytechnic University of Bucharest (UPB) and the University of Iceland (UoI) brings together a group of students and staff to develop new research ideas and find solutions for their implementation. The focus is onis on a vibrant and family study / work environment, equality and professional development opportunities.
The success of the project is based on common values, systematic planning, performance reviews and shared viewpoints. Within this mobility project, we aim to connect teachers and students from both countries in a scientific and multi-cultural exchange, cooperate and build the basis of new academic and research associations.
The project expects to achieve mainly inter-cultural, academic and scientific exchange. It is a good opportunity to promote individual and shared values in both countries. Also, we aim to create a close bond by writing project proposals together and cooperating on an extended scale, in large research projects, in the future.
Students, teaching and technical staff from UPB and UoI will benefit from this project, they : will have the chance to learn and live new experiences and add a plus to their knowledge. The person will benefit from this project are bachelor students, master students, PhD students, teachers and technical staff members from UPB, Bachelor student, Master students, PhD student, teachers and technical staff members from UoI.
University of Iceland will share skills and knowledge with University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest, host students and staff, exchange experience and put the basis of new research projects and other cooperation activities.
Summary of project results
The project was in line with the UPB strategy that encourages the exchange of experience for students and staff in partnership agreements with entities from other countries.
UPB shares with UoI the same principles and approaches towards the curriculum, areas of study, continuous research development, support for international cooperation, enhanced quality and technical transfer of research. The aim of the mobility project was to bring together a diverse group of staff and students in order to create and communicate new ideas and solutions. UPB and UoI are interested in modernizing the curricula and its teaching methods.
During the project we had 5 placement mobilities for Romanian students. They had the opportunity to work for research projects (continuing previous work or trying to implement new ideas provided by the coordinators in UoI and UPB). Also, we had 3 teaching mobilities, where the professors could exchange with students and other researchers ideas related to graphics, computer vision, virtual reality and assistive technology.
The project was beneficial for all the participants that traveled to University of Iceland or to University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest for placement or teaching mobilities.
For the students these mobilities represented a very interesting experience. Besides the technical benefits, we can also mention the new cultural experience. The students improved their technical skills and their English skills.
The teachers had also a beneficial cultural and technical experience. They had to give long presentations in another language besides their mother tongue. This pushed them to prepare very well, in order to master their presentations.
Summary of bilateral results
The donor partner has a history in writing and coordinating complex projects. During the mobility, they shared their knowledge with the researchers from UPB. Also, the students from Romania benefitted from attending different research activities in Iceland.A very important result of the project is the increased relation between UPB and UoI, at institutional level (through the inter-institutional agreement). These relations could lead to future collaborations in research. We plan to continue the bilateral collaboration. In fact, we have already signed another inter-institutional agreement.UPB benefitted from the collaboration with UoI through the mobilities of the Romanian students and staff members. The UoI team shared their example of managing research projects as well as relatively small student projects.Together we exchanged a lot of ideas related to the development of assistive systems. We plan to submit several projects proposal, related to our combined expertise, in the near future. Also, we signed a new mobility agreement between our universities.
