Description
THE CITADEL OF THE ARTS - Art in the hEArt of the ciTadEl (C.R.E.A.T.E!)" is an original, creative initiative and brings under the same umbrella Romanian and foreign artists on the largest outdoor cultural scene in Romania, the Alba Iulia Citadel. The project provides a set of sustainable solutions for a number of cultural gaps: a cultural agenda based more on the import of events; poor creative infrastructure; the need to develop the capacity of local cultural organizations. The main actions of the project are materialized in the preparation, organization and development of specialized interactive workshops, which will be the foundation for the design, organization and development of street performances of theater, music and fine arts. For the interaction with the general public, a street workshop will be organized, with combined arts (theater, music and plastic arts). The Norwegian partner, DAVVI – SENTER FOR SCENEKUNST, will organize the non-verbal theater workshop, which will be the basis for the design of theater performances. One of them will be designed and staged by DAVVI – SENTER FOR SCENEKUNST.
Summary of project results
The project aimed to provide sustainable solutions to several cultural challenges in Alba Iulia, including a lack of vibrant socio-cultural life, an event calendar primarily reliant on imported cultural programs, limited creative infrastructure, and the need to strengthen the capacity of local cultural organizations.
The project was an original and creative initiative that brought together Romanian and international artists under one umbrella, transforming the Alba Carolina Citadel into a vibrant open-air cultural stage.
The core activities included the preparation, organization, and execution of interactive artistic workshops. These workshops played a fundamental role in the conception, planning, and production of street performances that blended theater, music, and visual arts, creating a dynamic and immersive cultural experience.
The project provided free access to over 1,600 spectators to 15 contemporary art activities, including four theater performances, six theater productions presented as part of a micro-season, two street concert-style performances, one international exhibition, one national interethnic exhibition, and one interactive combined arts workshop.
Additionally, the project contributed to job creation in the cultural sector, generating 1.68 new positions, while also enhancing the skills of 12 cultural professionals, strengthening their expertise and capacity in the field.
Summary of bilateral results
The Norwegian partner, DAVVI - Senter for Scenekunst, organized a non-verbal theater workshop exclusively for the young actors of the Skepsis theater troupe. This workshop laid the foundation for the creation and premiere of two non-verbal theater performances, presented for the first time in Alba Iulia and Romania, enriching the local cultural scene and fostering international artistic collaboration.
