Description
The main objective of "Restoration and revitalization of cultural heritage - Pittner School-Exhibition and Event Center, Resita Municipality" project, consist in making investments into the building located in Resita town, Caras-Severin district. The building is a historical monument built at the end of the nineteenth century. The building is currently in an advanced state of degradation, requiring major repairs both in terms of securing the urban utilities, as well as interventions on all architectural elements, in order to transform it into an attractive exhibition space for visitors and exhibitors. For the promotion of the new multicultural center several activities are proposed, such as: - cultural and artistic educational activities with all ages persons (such as training sessions organized on topics related to multiculturalism) - promoting the idea of the importance of monuments'' protection - organizing cultural events such as cultural festivals, exhibitions, creative workshops in areas such as music, theater, choreography, fashion design, photo-video and visual arts. The direct beneficiaries of the investment are the local community members , especially persons who live in the area where the building is situated, considering that the investment will attract a high number of people, including a high cash flow for the local products and services.
Summary of project results
The restoration of the Pittner School monument, which was in an advanced state of degradation, stemmed from the community''s need for an exhibition center that would be attractive to visitors and exhibitors, and that would serve cultural activities for people of all ages (courses organized on topics related to multiculturalism and the protection of monuments), cultural events: festivals, exhibitions, creative workshops in music, theater, choreography, fashion design, photography and visual arts.
The main activities of the project were the restoration of the Pittner School historical monument and its revitalization through activities aimed at raising awareness of the importance of the historical site among the community, carried out by the Romanian partner through the organization of promotional caravans, cultural workshops (sculpture, painting, restoration, curatorship, etc.) and the organization of study visits both in Romania and Iceland to develop skills in cultural entrepreneurship and cultural heritage management.
The project delivered meaningful outcomes for both the local population and professionals in the cultural sector. It led to a 100% increase in public engagement, reaching a total of 2,492 people—496 visitors to the restored historical monument and 1,996 participants in cultural activities organized through promotional caravans. One historical monument building was restored and given new cultural and economic value, supported by the implementation of a heritage valorization plan. The project also enhanced workforce capacity, with ten professionals developing new skills and expertise, and it created 3.37 new jobs. Additionally, it promoted international collaboration through a joint initiative with a partner from a Donor State in the field of cultural heritage.
Summary of bilateral results
The project was implemented in partnership with Listahópurinn RÖSK from Iceland, which facilitated study visits for Romanian experts. The unique artistic performance by Thora Karlsdottir, the representative of the Donor State partner, held in collaboration with local artists and musicians from Reșița in March 2024, brought significant added value to the Pittner School project. This performance reflected the artist’s personal journey within the project, emphasizing their shared goal of mutual inspiration, symbolized by the contrast between Icelandic volcanoes and the industrial flame of Reșița. The one-of-a-kind dress created by Thora Karlsdottir specifically for this event is currently on display at the Pittner School.
