Description
This project represents a punctual response to the situation registered at the local level. Petelea continues to face challenges of ensuring social equity and the inclusion of the vulnerable group represented by Roma citizens, that consists of 47.03% of the total population. The deficit of social equity and integration is addressed in 3 defining levels: • economic – even though among Roma most of the people (59.18%) have the proper working age, the majority live in households with an extremely low labor intensity, employees on the formal labor market representing only 6.90%; also, less than 5% of the total children who complete high school manage to complete the next educational cycle, thus perpetuating the vicious circle of poverty • civic - although the Roma are the largest ethnic group, they are underrepresented at the level of the local public authority (Local Council) - 3 Roma councilors out of a total of 13 councilors • socio-cultural - segregation and discrimination are stil present (at the mental level of majority population) and unfold through the low level of social relations between Roma and the rest of the community in Petelea, perpetuating the historical pattern of discrimination, marginalization and social self-marginalization. The economic problem is tackled by vocational education training in the agricultural field and the support provided in order to carry out income-generating activities – 42 beneficiaries (60% Roma), respectively by vocational mentoring – 49 children beneficiaries (100% Roma). The civic problem is tackled through the program of increasing Roma capacity of taking decisions and involvement in the decisionmaking process – 24 beneficiaries (100% Roma). The socio-cultural problem is approached through actions of multicultural dialogue - 190 beneficiaries (64% Roma). The project will generate an increased level of capacity of the Roma (the vulnerable group) in three directions aiming socioeconomic equity and civic-cultural inclusion.
