Description

SPECIALLY IT DOESN''T MEAN ABNORMALLY. IT JUST MEANS MORE ATTENTION - the particularities of people with ASD is a source and challenge for knowledge, flexibility and creativity for the therapeutic field, educational and social policies, but also a challenge for any member of society. The "others" can be for us the mirror of our becoming, the way we will relate to them generating effects at the macrosocial level. We must have a minimum of openness to discover that, beyond the serious problems (socio-psycho medical) that people affected by autism spectrum disorders face, there is another world waiting to be discovered. The general problem caused by ASD and their impact at the social level presupposes that every human link in the system that contributes to the formation or recovery of the child with ASD (parent, educator, various specialized therapists, doctors) is aware of the possible obstacles he may encounter. during the recovery-integration process. All the above actors must be prepared to face with professionalism, patience, creativity all the challenges that autism involves. The project systematically and coherently addresses the issue of ASD. Project aim to diagnose autism early in rural children, train parents to develop, improve parenting skills, to understand child development, to learn to use alternative ways to address difficult situations encountered in raising and educating the child, which allows them to help their child be as independent as possible, and the formation of a support network by setting up Parents Club, workshops for teachers / educators / teachers to acquire the knowledge necessary to include children with autism in mainstream education, and awareness actions of autism issues for parents of typical children, teachers in schools and kindergartens, local public authorities, through the actions organized by Autism Day, organizing a relaxation corner in the local school.

Summary of project results

The project aimed at early identification of autism in rural areas, training parents to improve parental skills, training teachers, and raising public awareness about autism. The project aimed to develop competencies among teachers and educators regarding understanding autism, inclusion, and curriculum adaptation for children with autism, improving communication and interaction with them, managing behavioral problems, and collaborating with parents and professionals involved in their care.

All activities were carried out: planning, organizing, monitoring and controlling activities, managing risks and unforeseen situations, staffing, information and communication actions, updating the website, and editing brochures/leaflets. Four specifications were identified for filling positions, employment contracts and job descriptions were signed. Regular team meetings were held to monitor project progress. A self-assessment questionnaire was completed at the beginning and end of the implementation period. The organization''s website was updated with a section dedicated to the project. 1000 brochures, leaflets, posters, and other promotional materials were produced.

Recruiting, selecting, and enrolling the target group involved developing a recruitment method. Within the project, were a total of 200 beneficiary children (screening), 50 parents, and 31 teachers. The main challenges were related to identifying the target group, as parents were often reluctant to accept psychiatric diagnoses and denied them. They preferred to seek explanations (comfortable for them) for their children''s maladaptive behaviors and leave them in front of the TV or phone instead of engaging in activities together. Through the project, efforts were made to reach these parents to provide them with access to information so that children could benefit from educational, medical, and speech therapy support as early as possible, increasing the chances of recovery.
