Description
Millions of children around the world are at risk of growing threats to their own safety and well-being - including ill-treatment, gender-based violence, exploitation, social exclusion and separation from their carers - due to the phenomenon of family violence in the world, which grows in parallel with the restrictions imposed due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The members of the association since 2014 strive to promote human rights and provide social services for vulnerable children. They work voluntarily to identify situations of risk, to support through social and educational services the life of a number of 30 children. The children''s relatives are the ones who contact the association to accept children on the basis of beneficiaries. The problems that children face are: alcohol problems in the family, physical abuse in the family caused by parents, sexual abuse in the family, single-parent families, members without secure income, family unemployment, suicide, extremely low financial situation, raised by grandparents , without contact with parents or one of them. This project aims to raise awareness on human rights, equal treatment and improve social and educational services for 25 vulnerable children and their 50 parents/tutors, through educational activities, ensuring a warm meal per day, and raising awareness of a number of 100 people from the general population, on the phenomenon of domestic abuse and awareness of methods of intervention in case of abuse, in order to prevent them and promote human rights and equal treatment. The project has a duration of 18 months, will take place in Targu Secuiesc and in 3 surrounding villages: Sanzieni, Cernat and Catalina. Being a small organization, at the beginning of the road, we want to professionalize services and ensure the sustainability of activities.
Summary of project results
Starting from January 2023, we consistently provided daily warm meals for the 25 beneficiary children of the project. The project has contributed to improving the health and academic performance of the beneficiary children, providing them with a solid foundation for development and success.
The beneficiary activities program took place daily from 12:00 to 18:00 at the association. Throughout the project, the 25 children received warm meals and participated in after-school activities on all weekdays. During these activities, were reviewed school materials, worked on homework together and engaged in non-formal activities with volunteers. To raise awareness about human rights and equal treatment principles related to family abuse, were organized five educational workshops for the beneficiaries. These workshops covered various themes and were led by a social worker, a lawyer, a mental health specialist, and a doctor. The workshops, moderated by the project manager, lasted for four hours each.. As part of the project, were also organized a summer camp in collaboration with partner from Hungary in Praid. The camp aimed to facilitate an exchange of experience and develop relationship-building skills while fostering openness to other cultures and individuals among the 25 beneficiary children from Targu Secuiesc and 14 beneficiaries from Hungary. Additionally, were conducted five awareness campaigns.
Throughout the project, the 25 children received warm meals and participated in after-school activities on all weekdays. Another important result is that a total of 174 people were involved in the project activities. Additionally, through the non-formal activities carried out within the project, children have developed social skills, creativity, and self-confidence.
