The project "DOORS - Organizational Development of Romanian NGOs for Sustainability" addresses the need for sustainable development of the organizational capacity of 20 NGOs. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of 20 NGOs with a profile in educational and social fields that carry out activities in insufficiently served geographical areas, have limited human resources and limited material and financial resources. The project is necessary to develop the capacity of NGOs to become sustainable in a changing social and economic context, the CSDF(RO) report stating that 90% of respondents are worried that they will not be able to continue providing current services in the next 6 months, and 10% of respondents expressing concern that their organizations will cease their activity / will be disbanded in the next period. The NGOs concerned will be informed following an awareness campaign on the need for sustainable organizational development (A3) and selected following a transparent and objective selection process (A4). The applicant will contribute to the support of selected NGOs through direct support and organizational development activities: training and coaching (A5), organizational strategy development (A6), digital transformation and organizational development (A7), peer-to-peer learning program facilitation ( A8), updating and developing internal procedures (A9), improving cooperation between target NGOs and local stakeholders through local debates (A10), organizing thematic networking events, exchange of best practices and networking (A11), dissemination best practices for scaling project results (A12). The results of the project, detailed at the level of each activity, converge towards strengthening the capacity and developing the sustainability of civil society for insufficiently served geographical areas and target groups, aiming at the organizational development of 20 NGOs.

Summary of project results

The project "DOORS - Organizational Development of Romanian NGOs for Sustainability" addressed the need for sustainable development of the organizational capacity of 20 NGOs. The project aimed to strengthen the capacity of 20 NGOs with a profile in educational and social fields that carry out activities in insufficiently served geographical areas, have limited human resources and limited material and financial resources. The project was necessary to develop the capacity of NGOs to become sustainable in a changing social and economic context.

DOORS provided knowledge, developed tools, and created organizational strategies. It brought together stakeholders and conducted a series of activities aimed at strengthening NGOs'' capacity to generate a greater impact in their communities through the following activities: a project implementation methodology, an NGO selection methodology, with 20 NGOs selected and a reserve from 26 applicants. Three training sessions were held: organizational management, project management, and volunteer management, followed by 63 individual coaching sessions to transfer knowledge and skills. There were 20 peer-to-peer learning sessions, facilitating the exchange of best practices between NGOs. Each NGO benefited from a complete set of internal procedures and received customized resource kits (branding, website, and social media). Organizational strategies and tactical plans were developed and updated to increase community impact. Nineteen NGOs organized public debates in their communities, engaging local stakeholders and creating spaces for dialogue and collaboration. 

Twenty-one NGOs strengthened their sustainability and efficiency in implementing community projects. Participation in training, coaching, and peer-to-peer learning facilitated better resource mobilization and an increase in social impact. Twenty NGOs improved their internal procedures; created customized branding and online communication kits, enhancing their visibility and capacity to attract new partners and resources. The 19 public debates organized involved a total of 578 participants, demonstrating the active engagement of NGOs in community life. The project was also promoted by organizing a launch and closing conference, with 75 participants attending. Four press releases were issued, contributing to increased project visibility and the dissemination of results to a wider audience.

Summary of bilateral results

The DOORS project partner (P1) – Nedland Kultur from Norway, was involved during the implementation of the project as follows: in the Organization of 3 thematic networking events, exchange of good practices and networking in order to develop the capacity of NGOs to develop projects with a high impact in the community – P1 Representative – Mr. Sigbjorn Nedland, contributed to the activity by input in establishing the concept and agenda of the networking event, as well as participating in the 3 days with online intervention. Nedland Kultur contributed through feedback and input on the structure and content of the methodology, his multicultural experience giving added value to the partnership.
