Description
The mission of the partnership between the Full-Learning Experience and Children for Future Association is to support the educational path of gymnasium students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds in Bucharest. 30 children from the target group are enrolled in 2 schools from Bucharest, grades V-VIII. They have critical educational deficiencies, second grade level represented by the lack of basic knowledge: reading, writing, comprehension of texts, deficiencies in the fixed sciences (mathematics, sciences) and are grouped in special classes so as not to "mix" with children from other social clusters, thus violating their rights to education and equal treatment. In 2020 they could no longer benefit from offline school and registered regression caused by the pandemic and family situations representative of the group (lack of a parent, domestic violence, lack of privacy, financial problems, bullying, lack of utilities, etc.), and now refuse to study. The Full Learning Experience Association offers opportunities to children through modern technologies, facilitating access to effective digital learning solutions. The project creates an individual rehabilitation plan adapted to the environment in which they live, focusing on notions of personal and educational development online and offline: writing / reading, composition, mathematics, science and notions of informal education to understand emotions and social context. Combined with inclusion actions and continuous mentoring of the partner, will be create a connection between children''s academic development, emotional management and an active support community, which can be based on their needs throughout the 12 months. Project will activate children''s motivation during a year through positive pedagogical practices, workshops, courses and individual sessions supported by digital materials and working sessions with carefully selected experts.
Summary of project results
The "Going to high school" project aimed primarily at reducing school dropout rates for a group of 40 children from disadvantaged backgrounds, by providing additional support outside of school.
Within the project, 84 workshops and related activities were carried out, dedicated to the 40 beneficiaries of the project. The activities covered the social, psychological, physical and educational development needs of the children. Through the implementation of ASEBA tests we were assessing competencies, adaptive functioning, and emotional problems, with the support of accredited psychologists, parents, and teachers.
Additionally, 40 children benefited from psychological counseling, both individually and within the family, in collaboration with the legal guardian, leading to better understanding and harmony within the family. Workshops with various themes, such as ecology, technology, arts, personal development, remedial classes, career orientation, and sports activities, had tangible results in improving academic performance, self-confidence, and the belief that studies should be pursued seriously and persistently throughout life, and not just after graduating from middle school. Additionally, by creating 25 videos, the beneficiaries developed media skills, having access to examples of content that deserves appreciation and follow-up. Throughout the entire project, the children benefited from catering services and school supplies, in order to create an optimal environment for learning and academic development. Additionally, the classroom was renovated, creating a more comfortable and attractive environment for these disadvantaged children, motivating them to become more involved in the learning process and to continue their studies with confidence. The effectiveness of the project was highlighted by 8 publications that picked up information about the project and wrote about the importance of everyone''s involvement in the development of a better society based on values.
