Description
The project will be implemented in 2 marginalized urban areas (Satmarel, Satu Mare and Pirita, Baia Mare) in which over 500 Roma face serious problems that are perpetuated for several generations: material deprivation, poor living conditions, school dropout around the age of 12-13, underage mothers, low employment rate, segregation and discrimination. The intervention ensures a coherent and synergistic development of services for the empowerment of children and young people and changing the negative attitudes of the majority population towards them, ensuring the increase of sustainability of 2 CSOs operating in these communities. Roma children and young people from the target groups have always had poor access to education. Poor families do not have positive models of professional success in their midst. Thus, unlike children from other families, they have no way of understanding the idea of pursuing a career. Acting on the creation of innovative programs through which 110 children and young people interact with different professionals passionate about their jobs, the project ensures a strong intervention for the development of inclusion skills. To believe in the potential of these children and young people and to reflect it so strongly that they can see for themselves how capable they are, and have the courage to believe and materialize step by step their aspirations for a better future, is the vision of this project. Equally important is the emphasis on making the world around them aware of the many benefits of investing in empowering these children to break the barriers of poverty. They are a valuable resource for the community, they are the future! Any child trapped in the spiral of dropping out of school and unable to get out of the vicious circle of poverty is a loss to society as a whole. It is up to us, the local community, to provide the support these children need to grow to their full potential.
Summary of project results
The project aimed at increasing the capacity to build a successful future and supporting the inclusion of vulnerable children and young people from two of the most marginalized communities in Satu Mare and Baia Mare, by creating strong intervention mechanisms in order to support the empowerment of Roma, acting synergistically on reducing gaps regarding access to education, development opportunities, participation in community life and increasing the level of acceptance of the Roma.
Through this project, were supported 121 children and young people from two of the most vulnerable Roma communities in Satu Mare and Baia Mare in order to develop skills and prepare for a successful professional future. The project addressed the challenges of lack of access to personal and professional development opportunities. Through 448 workshops and professional visits, participants developed their knowledge of various professional fields and were motivated to plan their school and professional future, drawing inspiration from the experiences of the professionals they met. Through group personal development workshops and individual coaching sessions, 121 children and young people improved their life skills, learned to know themselves better, manage their emotions, build positive relationships and plan their future with confidence. An innovative civic education program allowed them to develop their knowledge of civil society and their skills to carry out solidarity projects through 16 "exercise NGOs". 111 volunteers were directly involved in organizing craft workshops, supporting the cause of social inclusion of children and young people. Another 101 stakeholder representatives participated in the events organized within the project. Advocacy actions, both online and offline, were widely publicized, generating an impact of more than 110,518 people by raising awareness on the importance of social inclusion and access to education for vulnerable communities. The two partners have increased their organizational capacity through training, coaching and consultancy, improving their professional skills and implementing good governance and management procedures and tools.
In terms of impact, the impact on local communities is significant, helping to increase the self-confidence and motivation of children and young people to plan for an educational and professional future. Through project activities the beneficiaries were supported in developing their knowledge about certain professional fields and also learning, practicing and developing their artistic/creative, social and physical skills.
