Description

Studies and analyzes show that discrimination against HIV-positive people is widespread in Romanian society and affects their socio-professional integration. In this context, the project addresses the issue of discrimination and non-respect of the rights of HIV-positive people in Giurgiu County, by developing the skills and competencies of HIV-positive people in the association in using specific concepts and tools of advocacy.
The main activities of the project are: training HIV-positive people on the use of specific concepts and tools of advocacy and human rights in the context of HIV / AIDS; mobilization of HIV-positive people in order to report violations of rights and situations of discrimination; facilitating dialogue between HIV-positive people and local stakeholders; promoting tolerance, non-discrimination and respect for the rights of HIV-positive people.
Through the project activities we follow a series of results, respectively: 60 HIV-positive people participating in the training sessions; 1 civic action group in the field of reporting the violation of the rights of HIV-positive people established and functional; 2000 people informed about the rights of HIV-positive people.
The project is implemented in partnership with the Federation of UNOPA (National Union of Organizations of People Affected by HIV / AIDS). The partnership with UNOPA is an important element in the impact of the project in the medium and long term, by finding innovative solutions, empowering HIV-positive people to use specific concepts and tools of advocacy, human rights in HIV / AIDS, influencing local decision makers and project visibility, local and national.
Therefore, the proposed project directly contributes to the defense and promotion of the rights of HIV-positive people in Giurgiu County and promotes tolerance, non-discrimination, and respect for the rights of HIV-positive people.

Summary of project results

The project contributed significantly to the defense of the rights of HIV-positive people through a series of activities, respectively: the establishment of a civic action group that will have the role of "watchdog" and after the completion of the project, the realization of the study dedicated to the identification of situations of discrimination and non-respect of rights, the training to HIV-positive people, awareness of the local community regarding tolerance and respect for the rights of HIV-positive people. 

The main deliverables: monitoring and evaluation plan, own website and section dedicated to the project, communication plan, course support on the theme "Lobby and Advocacy for respecting the rights and combating discrimination of HIV-positive people", report on situations of discrimination and non-respect of HIV-positive people in Giurgiu county, manifesto brochure and leaflet dedicated to promoting tolerance, non-discrimination and respect for the rights of HIV-positive people, campaign plan "Let''s talk about discrimination!". 

Main results: 60 HIV-positive people participating in training sessions on the use of specific advocacy concepts and tools; 1 civic action group in the field of reporting violations of the rights of HIV-positive persons established; 6 reported cases of discrimination; 1 report on situations of discrimination and non-respect of HIV-positive people; 64 civic action group meetings; more than 2000 people from 12 rural communities were informed about the rights of HIV-positive people; 10 volunteers involved. 

The Empowerment and advocacy project for respecting the rights and combating discrimination of HIV-positive people had a significant impact on the community of HIV-positive people in Giurgiu County, promoting the development of their skills and competencies in the field of defending and promoting their own rights. More than 60 HIV-positive people acquired essential knowledge and practical skills, increasing their ability to represent their interests and actively engage in the process of protecting their rights. At the same time, a solid community was created, with the main mission of identifying and reporting cases of violations of the rights of HIV-positive people in Giurgiu county. This support network has helped raise awareness of the issues these people face and strengthen protection measures. In addition, by running a campaign at the local level that resulted in a significant change in the general community''s attitude towards HIV-positive people, more than 2000 citizens of Giurgiu county benefited from information about the rights of HIV-positive people, creating the conditions for greater openness, acceptance and tolerance of HIV-positive individuals. This project generated lasting benefits, strengthening the dignity and rights of HIV-positive people and promoting a culture of inclusion and mutual support throughout the community.
