Description
The project proposes complex and integrated interventions targeting to challenge and change negative attitudes towards Roma, building a sense of solidarity and responsibility for improving relations between Roma and non-Roma and also developing an attitude of respect for cultural diversity and cultural heritage (history, customs and traditions) of each individual and of some social behaviors related to this attitude through habits.
• Organizing the “Me sem rrom, tu san gajo, ame sam manush/ I am Roma, you are romanian, we both are humans” campaign in order to raise awareness, address stereotypes and support / strengthen / extend positive changes in Roma attitudes and practices among 1000 young people from 10 interethnic communities from the South Muntenia region and realize and diseminate an anti-discrimination brochure that will include aspects related to the theme of Roma history and culture as well as aspects related to the rights of Romanian minorities and the importance of respecting diversity.
• Organizing two seminars for 100 teachers from 10 interethnic communities from the South Muntenia region in order to adopt / strengthen / include in the class activity the perspective of human rights, equal treatment and interculturality;
The project also aims to reduce discrimination based on ethnic criteria as well as promoting interculturality and equal opportunities among young people, parents, teachers.
Thus, the project contributes to the awareness of the risks and social and individual effects of discrimination and the internalization of anti-discrimination norms, principles and practices, both by persons belonging to vulnerable groups and by decision-makers and specialists within schools.
At the same time, the project has an organizational development component through which we will diversify the association''s funding sources by accrediting two continuing education courses: "Roma culture, tradition and history" and ”Intercultural education".
Summary of project results
The activities of the project "Ketanes san maj zorale! Together we are stronger!" had an intercultural approach by involving young people and teachers from interethnic communities and aimed to promote non-discrimination and acceptance of diversity. The "Me sem rrom, tu san gajo, ame sam manush" campaign was organized, with the participation of 1041 young people. During the campaign we organized 5 educational workshops on the themes "Roma culture and traditions" "Roma in history" "Stereotype, prejudice, discrimination, racism" "Tolerance, Diversity and Interculturality" "Personal development and self-esteem". At the end of the workshops was organized an artistic creation contest on the topics of the workshops and 20 young people were awarded. 2 training seminars were organized for 107 teachers on the topics "Roma culture, tradition and history" and "Intercultural education", 1 workshop for the dissemination, transfer and capitalization of good practices was organized at each community, with the participation of 163 peoples. The implementation of this project was essential to the development of the Association because it contributed to increasing the capacity and sustainability by diversifying the sources of financing (accreditation of 2 training courses for teaching staff on "Roma culture, tradition and history" and "Intercultural education"),by promoting and ensuring a better visibility of the good practices of the successful project of the organization. The actions of promoting and visibility of the association were intensified through periodic posts on the project page and on the Facebook page. Through the implementation of this project, we wanted to educate, inform and sensitize young people and teachers about the rights of minorities, the fight against ethnic and social discrimination, the development of an attitude of respect towards cultural diversity.
