Description

The project was written from the desire to support the social inclusion of 50 Roma and Romanian children and young people from a poorly developed rural locality (Giurgita, Dolj County) through activities related to oina, the national sport of the Romanians. The difficulties faced by Roma children or children from poor families in rural areas are well known and the project gives them an extra chance to develop, evolve and acquire the capacity to build a better future. In the last 5 years since our organization has been close to children and young people from Giurgita, we have had the opportunity to know them well, to understand their needs and to try, as much as we can, to help them. In the activities carried out, the Roma and Romanian children have overcome the prejudices by getting involved, helping and encouraging themselves, being together a real team. Their joy, their desire to continue and the insistence of friends and colleagues in the village have led us to increase efforts to be with them. Within this project we will try to bring a bit of joy and confidence to children who have been used to the difficulties of life from early ages. Starting with oina, the sport that they loved so much, there will be games and activities that will help them discover in themselves unhoped resources of strength, tolerance and hope. Through the oina, the Roma and Romanian children from Giurgita have discovered that they can work together, that they can trust each other, that they can be very good in one area, whatever it may be, if they work enough and engage with passion. The City Hall of Giurgita and the Giurgita Gymnasium School have always helped us and will also support the implementation of this project by providing necessary classrooms, sports hall, and terrain. They will also help in selecting the beneficiaries of this project and promoting the activities.

Summary of project results

This project addressed the social exclusion of Roma and non-Roma children and young people from a poorly developed rural locality. In addition, children from poor families in rural areas face a lot of difficulties throughout life, thus they can present a range of psychological problems such as low self-esteem, behavioral problems, fears, and insecurities affecting a child''s overall sense of well-being.

The project supported the social inclusion of 50 Roma and non-Roma children and young people from a poorly developed rural locality (Giurgita, Dolj County) through activities related to ''''oina'''', the national sport of Romania. The purpouse was to give thesese children an extra chance to develop, to evolve and acquire the capacity to build a better future. In the activities carried out (where the social and emotional development games prevailed), the Roma and non-Roma children have overcome the prejudices by getting involved, helping and encouraging themselves, being a real team trogethe. This project tried to bring a bit of joy and confidence to children who are used to face difficulties of life from early ages. Along with oina, the sport that they loved so much, they were engaged in games and activities that help them discover within themselves unhoped resources of strength, tolerance and hope.

Through their involvement in these activities, the 50 beneficiaries have developed social skills (effective communication, cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, self-control) and have cultivated leadership qualities (self-confidence and confidence in others, integrity, organization, fairness, influence). Additionally, the level of social inclusion for the Roma children in the community has increased.
