Description
An integrated approach, contemplating several intelligent logistics solutions, based on collaboration, to optimize the number of vehicles and resources needed in operations. 1. A digital solution that orchestrates and manages optimized urban logistics processes
2. A Unique Address Identifier (UAI), a code that uniquely identifies a physical address
3. Implementation of a combination of complementary initiatives at the level of living laboratories that will leverage the impacts of the platform zero-emission last mile operations and optimized waste collection in two pilots in the following territories: União de Freguesias de Sintra and União de Freguesias de Massamá and Monte Abraão.
Summary of project results
The objective of the project was to develop an innovative smart urban logistics system that allows improving the effectiveness and efficiency of logistics activity, especially in postal distribution, technical assistance and utility maintenance activities, as well as urban waste management.
The project had three core activities, as well as management, comunication and monitoring activities.
- Living lab 1 and Living lab 2
Database Treatment
Support for methodologies and research
Definition of concentration units and their destination
Pilot Implementation
Assessment and reengineering of processes and methodologies
- Application Development
Technical-functional specification
Application development and evolutionary maintenance
The outcomes of the project were mainly focused on the population of both living labs:
1. A digital solution, which allowed orchestrating and managing all urban logistics processes in an optimized way, which includes varied service routes (waste collection, goods). This solution was based on the team''s work on smart city logistics projects in countries such as the Netherlands and Norway;
2. The development of the IUE (Unique Address Identifier) which promoted an increase in the effectiveness and efficiency of logistics activities;
3. Implementation of a combination of complementary initiatives in terms of living laboratories that exponentiated the impacts of the platform and IUE, namely: a city logistics consolidation hub pilot that promoted smart solutions that limit the number of delivery vehicles needed in the city , centralizing deliveries from multiple operators, before they enter the urban area it serves; use of RFID technology to track deposited volumes (bags of bio-waste and undifferentiated waste); biomass reduction/compression containers and biodegradable bags distributed to households selected for this purpose; electrified fleet for last mile distribution processes; smart cabinets and locks installed in residential buildings // Mercado Estefânia and Mercado Massamá.
The project worked closely with other ongoing projects, specifically with SMAS which, in turn, are applied in three more Municipalities (Oeiras, Mafra and Cascais). The results achieved in this segment of pilots find strong adherence and continuity to the aforementioned projects and strategies.
Summary of bilateral results
The project contributed to Bilateral Relations, as it includes the Norwegian partner MARLO A.S., who contributed as a consultant with extensive experience in providing information solutions and technologies in the transport and logistics sectors over the last 20 years, applied in smart urban logistics in countries such as the Netherlands and Norway.
