Description

The "ALLright(s) - Rights for all" project centres its activity in 13 municipalities in the District of Coimbra and aims to raise awareness, educate and train for understanding and activation in the areas of human rights, gender equality, diversity and interculturality at least 1400 children and young people (ages 4 to 21) and 80 professionals. Through awareness sessions and workshops in school, it aims to raise awareness of the importance of defending and promoting Human Rights.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to raise awareness and train children, youth and professionals in the field of human rights. The project''s activities included training and awareness-raising sessions, campaigns, and the creation of youth discussion/activation groups to promote human rights education and active citizenship.

Two training sessions for professionals in education and social intervention were conducted by the partners ECWT (European Centre for Women and Technology) and Akto (Human Rights and Democracy), involving 35 professionals. The "Build" component included 155 awareness sessions for children and youth, with 1,586 participants (430 preschool children, 734 primary school children, 404 middle school children and youth, and 18 high school students).

The project operated in urban and low-density areas across three districts (Aveiro, Coimbra, and Leiria) and ten municipalities (Alvaiázere, Coimbra, Cantanhede, Condeixa-a-Nova, Figueira da Foz, Lousã, Mealhada, Montemor-o-Velho, Semide, and Tábua).

The "Youths in Action" initiative aimed to engage youth in discussions about human and cultural diversity and human rights, forming discussion groups that carried out interventions in their schools and communities. Three groups were created: Group 1 with five youth from the Santa Maria de Semide Youth Shelter, Group 2 with nine youth from the Carapinheira CATL, and Group 3 with 27 youth from the Fernando Namora Secondary School CATL, divided into three subgroups. The project involved five volunteers.

Activities with the "Youths in Action" group in Semide empowered participants for more active involvement in their schools and community. On March 27, an activity on "Youth Mental Health" was held for all youth at the shelter. The Carapinheira group held several debate sessions and practical activities, culminating in a public presentation at school on June 2, featuring a mural to symbolically remind everyone of the need to continue fighting for rights and building a better, more equal future.

The subgroups presented the following projects:

"Set it Right" - Highlighted the dichotomy between healthy and toxic love with a Valentine''s Day exhibition.

"Go Green" - Emphasized the importance of recycling to reduce the ecological footprint, including writing a letter to the Education Councilor of Condeixa-a-Nova about the need for recycling points.

"Ius+" - Raised awareness about the right to education with a poster presented to primary school students at the Condeixa-a-Nova Educational Center.

Throughout the project, various initiatives and activities were carried out under the "Communicate" component, including the creation of a website, logo and graphic materials, a video, a manual/stickers for session support, a Toolkit, and the ALLright(s) Box with resources for human rights education. Three awareness campaigns were conducted, producing and distributing posters to various schools and groups.

In quantitative terms, the following was achieved:

- 35 professional staff trained;

- 1.627 youths mobilised by NGOs to engage in human rights work;

- 3 awareness raising campaigns carried out;

- 79% share of target group showing concern for human rights.

In terms of capacity building, the promoter carried out a needs assessment and prepared an action plan.
