The project "Capacity-building in action" aims to reinforce the organisational capacity and sustainability of the project promoter, through training, mentoring, coaching and consultancy of their employees, volunteers and management in the areas of Policy Advocacy, Administrative and Financial Management, Social Projects, Relationship Marketing, Fundraising, Volunteer recruitment, integration and management and Staff-User Relationship Management. The project also provides for the exchange of experiences and collaborative benchmarking with the Icelandic partner (MS Society of Iceland) and training in an international context.
Summary of project results
The project''s objective was to enhance the organizational capacity and sustainability of the promoter by developing their staff''s skills. The action plan included mentoring, consulting, coaching, and training in areas needing improvement. The primary goal was to equip the promoter''s human resources with the skills to ensure effective and efficient services, and to establish mechanisms for the sustainability of branches and units through shared know-how and experiences.
Training in the priority area of advocacy and policy monitoring was conducted, totaling 65 hours and divided into three courses: Course A (Policy Advocacy) for 45 hours involving three management members, Course B (Policy Advocacy – Internal Communication) for 12 hours involving 32 staff and volunteers, and Course C (Policy Advocacy – External Communication) for 8 hours involving three communication department staff.
The program included mentoring in advocacy and policy monitoring for three directors, covering topics such as external communication (21.5 hours), internal communication and human resources (21.5 hours), and coordination of departments (22 hours).
Consulting services were provided to develop a fundraising plan, totaling 165 hours, resulting in the creation of the Fundraising Plan.
In quantitative terms, the following was achieved:
- 32 professional staff trained;
- 1 partnership between NGOs or with public/private entities supported;
- 1 NGO referencing research/evidence in their advocacy work
- 1 initiative implemented through partnerships between NGOs or with public/private entities;
- 1 NGO with effective management procedures;
- 1 NGOs less dependent on public funding (excluding ACF funding) by at least 10%.
Summary of bilateral results
The partnership with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Iceland was valuable for sharing best practices and fostering joint reflection on interventions for people with MS and their caregivers/families.
