Description

"E-SER - Digital Resources to BE (Raise awareness and Educate for Relationships)" aims to train families and professionals, following an ecological model of prevention, to play an active role in the early prevention of all forms of interpersonal violence, with children ages 3 to 10 years old. It intends to train 120 professionals to implement the programme, in addition to involving 30 university students. Digital resources and materials will be created and disseminated to promote positive interactions between children and families, while at the same time reinforcing personal, social and safety skills. This project aims to reinforce the geographic expansion of the implementation of a previous project, "Hora de SER", allowing more children, from different parts of the country, to benefit from a structured prevention programme.

Summary of project results

The project''s main objective was to empower families and professionals to take an active role in the early prevention of interpersonal violence among children aged 3 to 10. The target groups included professionals working in educational and community contexts, in pre-school and primary education, college students in key training areas (basic education and social education), and families of children aged 3 to 10 years old.

The project aimed to empower families and professionals to take an active role in the early prevention of interpersonal violence among children aged 3 to 10 years. This goal was achieved by training 191 school and community professionals, surpassing the initial target of 120, through 12 training sessions held across different regions of the country.

Another objective was to train 30 university students, future professionals in key areas such as basic education. A total of 39 students were trained in two sessions, in partnership with the KOKORO Association, the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, and the School of Education of Paula Frassinetti.

The project also aimed to enhance the personal, social, and safety skills of at least 800 children aged 3 to 10 through the implementation of the Hora de SER® Programs. With the training, supervision, and support provided to professionals, 1542 children were reached through 82 implementations of the Hora de SER® Programs, exceeding the initial target.

Eight resources were developed or made available to assist families and professionals in their role of raising awareness and educating against violence:

                - Three thematic guides for families (Gender Equality, Effects of Violence, and Safety) in digital format;

                - One Activity Manual/E-Book (100 printed copies + digital version);

                - Four webinars (Relationships, Effects of Violence, Online Safety, and the Role of the Family in Child Education).

Following the availability of these resources, particularly the webinars, 102 families reported feeling more capable of raising awareness and educating their children against violence

In quantitative terms, the following was achieved:

- 191 professional staff trained;

- 39 youths mobilised by NGOs to engage in human rights work;

- 96% share of target group showing concern for human rights.

In terms of capacity building, the promoter carried out a needs assessment and prepared an action plan. This led to an investment on IT software, namely web development and data visualization tools.

All proposed targets were met and exceeded.
