Description

Through a process of community involvement and empowerment and a focus on media literacy and cultural mediation, the “Humano Festival” project seeks to promote the human dimension in school culture and social cohesion in local communities. 120 young people aged 12 to 16 will become local agents of participatory democratic action, empowered through the use of dynamics such as life stories, theatre, film and other art practices. The process will culminate in an annual event – the Humano Festival – where young people’s actions and productions about democracy and human rights will be presented, in synergy with local partners and residents and alongside other cultural and social activities.

Summary of project results

The project aimed to strengthen school culture and community cohesion through civic media literacy and cultural mediation. It empowered young people (12-16) to promote Human Rights, SDGs, and global citizenship. The annual festival showcased artistic and media literacy projects, engaging local partners and the broader community.

The project''s artistic and inclusive approaches, materials, and models enhanced educators'' abilities to address contemporary educational challenges and urgent changes. This capacity-building and community engagement process had a lasting impact on school communities. Young people and educators from Bairro Padre Cruz and Passos Manuel in Lisbon found effective models to address exclusion and improve learning. In Alpiarça, located in the Santarém district, the project tackled demographic and democratic challenges, while in Oeiras, on the outskirts of Lisbon, high school students learned to manage their busy and polarized lives.

By connecting with local communities, authorities, and residents, the project trained young people, educators, and local authorities as Human Rights agents. These trained individuals are now equipped to continue implementing the project''s approaches and learnings through an immersive training program with materials, training, and support for educators

In quantitative terms, the following was achieved:
