Description

This project proposes (i) to educate teachers and young people about human rights and to promote activism as a way to act in society to defend and advance human rights; but also (ii) to influence public opinion and policies in order to promote processes of social change regarding discrimination, racism and hate speech. MEGAFONE DOS DIREITOS HUMANOS is thus a project of education, influence, and action for change. It will include workshops, training initiatives for young people, face-to-face and online exchanges with young Norwegians, and awareness campaigns. In terms of advocacy, there are plans to create an influential group composed of NGOs working in the area of human rights.

Summary of project results

The project focused on human rights education and promoting activism as a means of defending human rights. It aimed to influence political processes to drive societal change regarding discrimination and racism.

Over a two-year period, 210 young people and 22 teachers were trained to promote human rights through workshops, campaign production, and activism initiatives. Additionally, 35 young people were engaged in actions aimed at defending human rights, combating discrimination and hate speech, and promoting anti-racist education. Decision-making processes were influenced through the creation of a memorandum/policy-brief on youth particpation.

In quantitative terms, the following was achieved:

- 5 NGOs engaged in advocacy work on human rights;

- 22 professional staff trained;

- 210 youths mobilised by NGOs to engage in human rights work;

- 8 awareness raising campaigns carried out;

- 1 local policy influenced;

- 89% share of target group showing concern for human rights.

In terms of capacity building, the promoter had already developed an action plan based on a needs assessment conducted during a previous ACF project. Accordingly, 12 professionals received training in hr management, communication, project management and impact evaluation. In addition, a new organizational image/logo/website was introduced.

All proposed targets were met and exceeded.

Summary of bilateral results

The Norwegian Human Rights Academy prepared and facilitated a workshop on "Citizenship, Human Rights, and the Rule of Law." Additionally, the academy organized exchange activities for four young people, accompanied their visit to Norway, and implemented a human rights campaign.
