Description

This project aims to promote Gender Equality, as a fundamental human right, by investing in the education and awareness of preschool children as an essential condition for the formation of full citizens. A Gender Equality Training Framework for Childhood Educators will be created to provide them with the skills to introduce Gender Equality pedagogical practices, and their application will be tested in 30 preschools in Amadora. Project results will be disseminated nationally through an Awareness-Raising Campaign to promote Gender Equality in Preschool Education.

Summary of project results

The Crescer + IGUAL – Primeiros Anos (Growing + Equal - First Years) project aimed to promote gender equality as a fundamental human right by investing in the awareness and training of the following target groups: kindergarten teachers, pre-school children, and parents.

The project was developed in two distinct phases, with different but complementary approaches: a pilot phase developed in pre-school education establishments in the municipality of Amadora, including activities of creation, testing and validation of the training framework in gender equality for kindergarten educators, training of educators, dynamization of workshops for children and parents; a phase of dissemination, of the results of the project and products created, with emphasis on the Pedagogical KIT Crescer + IGUAL, in print and online, which aims to contribute to the integration of the gender perspective in the pedagogical practices of kindergarten educators.

Several key outcomes were achieved:

- Gender Equality Training Framework: Developed a comprehensive training framework for childhood educators to equip them with the skills needed to introduce gender equality practices in their teaching.

- Implementation in Preschools: Tested the application of this framework in 30 preschools in Amadora.

- Awareness-Raising Campaign: Launched a national campaign to promote gender equality in preschool education, spreading awareness and encouraging broader societal change.

- Educational Impact: Focused on the education and awareness of preschool children, aiming to foster a more egalitarian society by encouraging equal participation of all genders in various spheres of life.

These outcomes highlight the project''s commitment to promoting gender equality from an early age, ensuring that the next generation grows up with a strong foundation in equality and inclusivity.

In quantitative terms, the following was achieved:

- 297 professional staff trained;

- 1 awareness raising campaign carried out;

- 95% share of target group showing concern for human rights.

In terms of capacity building, the promoter carried out a needs assessment and prepared an action plan. This led to the development of an institutional communication plan and a strategic operational plan focused on improving fund-raising and human resources management practices.

All proposed targets were met and exceeded.

Summary of bilateral results

The bilateral cooperation established within the scope of the project with the Norwegian partner Likestillingssenteret was very positive, highlighting the 2-day Transnational Meeting held on June 3 and 4, 2019, for deepening partnership work, sharing challenges and opportunities, and transferring good practices and pedagogical resources, many of which were incorporated into the gender-equality training framework for early childhood educators. The workshop developed by the partner during this meeting involved, in addition to the partners, a total of 16 early childhood educators, providing an ''extra'' training moment for these professionals. The work meetings held were also very enriching, and the visits to pre-school education establishments in the municipality of Amadora and the meeting with representatives of other associations working in the field of gender-equality and education in Portugal were equally valued by the partners. It is worth noting that after the work carried out in the project, the partner relationship continues in another project promoted within the scope of the EEAGRANTS Gender Equality and Reconciliation Program, which is a clear indicator of the added value and success of this partnership.
