A grant for activities related to the improvement of accessibility standards in cities under the "Local Development" Program is addressed to the cities that have applied for support for projects under the Local Development Programme, but have not received project co-financing and met the donors'' requirements in terms of horizontal issues. Eventually the support received 20 cities that have met the ciritria. The grants will be allocated to activities indicated by the cities in the Local Development Programs. These activities involve: the adaptation of public buildings to accessibility requirements, accessibility trainings for public sector employees as well as targeted trainings for people with disabilities, creating systems that make it easier to move in the city for people with disabilities and ensuring appropriate equipment in public utility facilities.
Summary of project results
20 cities that completed activities related to the improvement of accessibility standards in cities under the "Local Development" Programme increased the adaptation of public buildings to accessibility requirements, provided accessibility trainings for public sector employees as well as targeted trainings for people with disabilities, creating systems that make it easier to move in the city for people with disabilities and ensuring appropriate equipment in public utility facilities.
Wałbrzych: sign language course for employees of the City Hall in Wałbrzych and employees of the Municipal Social Welfare Center, induction loop – 3 units, information boards in Braille installed in the building of the Municipal Social Welfare Center in Wałbrzych.
Busko Zdrój: lift shaft in the building of the City Hall adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, a wheelchair ramp constructied.
Krapkowice: lift in the City and Municipality Hall adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
Sokołów Podlaski: construction of a ramp for people with disabilities at the preschool building.
Świdwin: sign language translator - the service launched on the City Hall and Municipal Social Welfare Center websites, providing free online access to a sign language interpreter. Anyone who needs the assistance of the sign language interpreter for matters related to the activities of the Office can connect with an interpreter free of charge. Then the interpreter connects with an employee of the respective institution and translates the conversation. Customer service training for people with special needs.
Grajewo: Adaptation of a toilet facilities in the Grajewo City Hall building to meet the needs of people with disabilities.
Legnica: Purchase of equipment and furnishing for the needs of the Film Club for the Blind at the Music and Special Collections Branch, purchase of Magic Carpets (interactive floor), as well as 2 laptops, a TV set, and 2 stereo systems for conducting activities for children, youth, and adults at the public library
Nowy Targ: Benches in the park – increasing the accessibility of the public space, adaptation of toilets at the Social Welfare Center, training for City Hall employees on preparing ''accessible'' documents, provision of information about the layout of rooms in the City Hall building in Nowy Targ, at least in a visual, tactile, or auditory way (installation of information boards and signs).
Mielec: Induction loops, tactile maps at the cultural center in Mielec and at the senior citizens'' home.
Głogów: Implementation of the first stage of fire safety measures related to the construction of the lift adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
Mrągowo: Purchase of two evacuation chairs for people with disabilities in the buildings of the City Hall in Mrągowo, purchase and installation of information-navigation signs in Braille (up to 30 units) in the City Hall buildings, purchase of contrasting stair markings for the internal stairs.
Rumia: Purchase and installation of equipment meeting accessibility standards for the playground in the city.
Biłgoraj: Equipment meeting accessibility standards for the playground in the city.
Piastów: Improved safety and accessibility of the pedestrian crossings at three intersections in Piastów.
Nakło nad Notecią: Architectural and informational-communication audit of the public utility buildings.
Kraśnik: Adaptation of the toilet in the City Hall, training on serving customers with disabilities.
Chełm: Induction loops with microphones, multimedia terminal with Braille alphabet, purchase of room number signs in Braille.
Mińsk Mazowiecki: adaptation of the intersection near the Municipal Public Library building in Mińsk Mazowiecki.
Przasnysz: ramp for the people with disabilities with stair markings and reconstruction of the entrance doors adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
Skarżysko Kamienna: audit of the website, organization of the integrative pétanque tournaments.
The project improved the accessibility of public spaces and services for people with various types of disabilities in 20 Polish cities. The activities in the project not only ensured easier access to public buildings and recreational spaces, but an important aspect of the actions was also the inclusion of people with disabilities in the social life by offering various types of activities tailored to their needs. City hall employees trained in servicing clients with disabilities, now provide better quality services to residents, taking into account their specific needs.
