Description

The project  aims to improve the functioning of the local system of preventing domestic violence by introducing activities addressed to specialists: those who perform tasks in the area of preventing domestic violence against elderly people/adults with disabilities, specialists providing support services for elderly people/people with disabilities, as well as to all residents of the Municipality of Krakow, with particular emphasis on: the elderly / people with disabilities, as well as their families and guardians.

The project will take into account the issues of promoting gender equality at every stage. At the stage of project preparation, available data broken down by gender were collected. The promotional campaign being prepared will be free of gender stereotypes. Activities addressed to specialists/members of the teams will be prepared taking into account the conditions of functioning of the social groups for which they operate, i.e. the elderly and the disabled, with particular attention to the needs of each gender. The content of the prepared materials and messages will take into account gender-sensitive language. Project management will also be in line with the principle of gender equality, e.g. involvement in project implementation due to competences, not gender.

Summary of project results

The project was developed to prevent violence against the elderly and people with disabilities, who are particularly vulnerable to domestic violence and neglect. A key problem was the low public awareness of the scale of this phenomenon and the lack of adequate tools for its effective diagnosis and intervention. The goal was also to strengthen cooperation between institutions working to protect this social group.

As part of the project:
 A Model for the Prevention of Domestic Violence against the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities was developed, which defines effective methods of support, diagnosis and intervention in cases of domestic violence against this group.
 A public awareness campaign was conducted, “Violence is closer than you think. Don''t be indifferent. React,” including informational and animated films and educational materials aimed at victims of violence, witnesses, caregivers and professionals.
 Training sessions were held for 353 specialists (employees of social welfare centers, the Police, health services, education and NGOs) on recognizing and intervening in cases of violence against the elderly and with disabilities.
 Two interdisciplinary conferences were held, attended by a total of more than 300 experts and practitioners in the field of violence prevention.
 Prevention workshops were held for the elderly and people with disabilities, attended by 52 beneficiaries.

The project has produced tangible results that have contributed to strengthening the system for preventing domestic violence against the elderly and people with disabilities:
 A new model of intervention was developed and implemented, which can be used by aid institutions in Krakow.
 Improved the competence of 353 specialists who, through training, are better able to recognize and respond to cases of violence.
 Public awareness has been raised through an extensive information campaign, including educational films and media spots.
 Interdisciplinary cooperation was improved, allowing more effective intervention and better coordination between institutions responsible for protecting people at risk of violence.

Model for Prevention of Domestic Violence against the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities. The project has developed a comprehensive support model that includes:
 Description of the phenomenon of violence against the elderly and persons with disabilities - its specifics, risk factors and consequences.
 Institutional support system - an overview of available services and forms of assistance.
 Intervention path - procedures for dealing with reports of violence.
 Prevention activities - 9 workshop scenarios for different groups (elderly, their caregivers, professionals).
 Recommendations for institutions - on cooperation and effective response to cases of violence.

Evaluation
The evaluation of the project included both a preliminary (ex-ante) and an evaluation during implementation  (mid-term).
The conclusions of the evaluation showed that:
 The anti-violence model has been effectively implemented and is an effective tool for professionals.
 Public awareness of the problem of violence against the elderly and people with disabilities has been increased.
 Interdisciplinary cooperation between institutions was improved, which contributed to a
to a more efficient response to cases of violence.
 The public campaign effectively reached Krakow residents, increasing the number of reports of domestic violence in this group.
The project has contributed to improving the quality of life of the elderly and people with disabilities and increasing their sense of security. Activities under the model will continue to ensure the sustainability of the results achieved.
