Description

The project aims to improve the functioning of the system of preventing domestic violence against the elderly and disabled people by implementing a comprehensive and innovative support program in the Markowa Commune.

Achieving the results of the project will be supported by the project partner, a non-governmental organization (Association of friends of Markowa), whose tasks include information and promotion activities within the project as well as the implementation of a preventive and awareness-raising campaign.

Meetings and conferences as part of information and promotion activities will be held in buildings adapted to the needs of particularly vulnerable people. At least 2 methods of communication will be used in information and promotion activities: telephone, e-mail, meeting, in person or through a third party. Information about the project will be available in the project office (adjusted to the needs of the elderly/disabled people) and on the website of the Project Promoter and Project Partner. It is planned to develop a practical guide as part of the prevention and awareness-raising campaign, also in an electronic version, adapted to the needs of particularly vulnerable groups, people with special needs.

The individual support provided within the project will be adjusted to the needs of individual people, regardless of gender. It will be based on the problems, needs and deficits of each person participating in the project. The activities will be adequate to deficits and needs diagnosed at the beginning of participation in the project.

The Project Promoter plans the implementation of awareness-raising activities, as part of a prevention and awareness-raising campaign, aimed at the local community, showing the dignity of a person and sensitizing to the phenomenon of physical, mental and economic violence, in particular against the elderly and people with disabilities.

Summary of project results

It was addressed to elderly (65+) and disabled persons at risk of or experiencing domestic violence and their family members or caregivers, representatives of services/institutions/organizations operating in the area of counteracting domestic violence, including persons providing support services to persons experiencing domestic violence, the local community of the Markowa Commune.

The project included comprehensive activities aimed at various target groups, creating a model for preventing domestic violence against the elderly and disabled, including: support services for elderly and disabled persons at risk of or experiencing violence, services for their families and caregivers, which were expected to contribute to minimizing violent behavior, training for members of the Interdisciplinary Team and Working Groups and a platform for exchanging experiences to enable the development of interdisciplinary cooperation, increased competence of members of the Interdisciplinary Team and Working Groups to better recognize the situation of elderly and disabled persons and their families and identify persons at risk of and experiencing family violence, various preventive activities.

Through participation in the counseling center, support groups and workshops, the development of support for people experiencing family violence belonging to groups with special needs, as well as for family members or caregivers of elderly and disabled people at risk of or experiencing family violence was achieved.
Training of members of the Working Groups has increased their competence in the area of counteracting violence in the Family and the development of interdisciplinary cooperation. The Markowa Commune also saw the development of prevention in the area of countering family violence with the use of a prevention and awareness-raising campaign during local municipal events. Due to the rural area, where the topic of violence is taboo, activities were carried out in the field to reach people at risk of and experiencing domestic violence with information and education. Through activities and direct contact, trust and proper communication with the person experiencing violence was built. In addition, there has been an awareness of residents not to give in to violence and to take advantage of available support. The organized meetings and events will have added value in the long term, people who have increased their knowledge of violence for the moment will react differently to such activities in the future.
