Description

The project assumes the development of support for people experiencing domestic violence belonging to groups with special needs through the creation and development of a local model of preventing domestic violence against the elderly and disabled people.

The project will not differentiate, exclude or limit participants due to disability, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, age or belief. The project assumes activities that fully include people with disabilities and seniors in the life of local communities. Support places at the disposal of the Social Welfare Centre do not have architectural barriers - they are equipped with ramps, lifts, toilets for the disabled, they are located in a short distance from bus stops. During the implementation of support, the project staff will moderate the promotion of shared responsibility in the household and family, regardless of gender, especially in families with people with disabilities and seniors. Forms of support provided within the project will take into account the physical and mental conditions of people with disabilities and seniors.

Project activities will promote diversity, diversity of values, respect for others and equal treatment as basic principles. Activities will aim to show and understand the needs of other members of the group/family/society. During the project, the specificity of learning different groups and the needs related to reconciling family and private life will be taken into account. Activities in the project will help to change the stereotypical relations between women and men, thanks to diversity management - diversity (ethnic, cultural, gender, age, health status) will be used to increase efficiency in the group/family/society.

Summary of project results

The project was focused on addressing the issue of violence against the elderly and people with disabilities. We placed particular emphasis on empowering these individuals, strengthening their self-esteem, and reinforcing their sense of importance in society. By building their confidence, they would be better equipped to recognize harmful situations and stand up for themselves. As a result, they would find it easier to react and oppose any form of violence directed at them.

Our project focused on developing a comprehensive local model for effectively preventing violence against older adults and individuals with disabilities.

To successfully achieve this goal, we implemented several key initiatives designed to empower and protect vulnerable individuals. First, we organized interactive and engaging group workshops specifically tailored for individuals at risk, with the aim of strengthening their essential soft skills, enhancing their self-confidence, and increasing their ability to recognize and respond to potential threats. Additionally, we carefully designed and introduced a structured certification process called "Sensitive to Violence," which is awarded to organizations that actively participate in specialized and in-depth training sessions. During these workshops, staff members acquire valuable and practical knowledge on how to identify early warning signs of abuse, understand the various forms of violence that may occur, and learn where to refer affected individuals to ensure they receive the appropriate professional support and assistance. We specifically targeted a diverse range of organizations that have daily, direct interactions with older adults and individuals with disabilities, ensuring that support networks are as widespread and accessible as possible.

As part of our carefully planned pilot certification process, a total of 15 different entities from various sectors took part, demonstrating the broad impact and reach of our initiative. These included a beauty salon, a bistro, a rehabilitation clinic, several dedicated non-governmental organizations, a law firm offering legal support, multiple active district councils, and vibrant senior clubs that serve as important social hubs for older adults.

Thanks to the successful implementation of our project, we achieved several key milestones in our efforts to prevent violence against older adults and individuals with disabilities.

One of the most significant accomplishments was awarding 15 "Sensitive to Violence" certifications to various organizations that completed specialized training. These organizations are now better equipped to recognize signs of abuse and provide appropriate support to those in need.

To further increase awareness and recognition of the "Sensitive to Violence" certification in Gliwice, we organized a concluding conference. This event brought together key stakeholders, experts, and community representatives to discuss the importance of violence prevention and the role that certified organizations play in creating a safer environment. Additionally, we launched a public awareness campaign titled "Together Against Violence."

As part of our direct support efforts, we provided group workshops for 52 individuals identified as being at risk. These workshops empowered participants by strengthening their self-confidence, improving their ability to recognize potential threats, and equipping them with practical strategies to protect themselves in difficult situations.
