Summary of project results
The project was aimed at improving the functioning of the anti-violence system, taking into account gender, age and different types of disabilities in the Municipality of Klucze. The assumptions of the project were comprehensive, preventive as well as intervention and assistance. The assumed results of the project were: development of support for people experiencing family violence belonging to groups with special needs, improvement of the functioning of the system of counteracting family violence belonging to groups with special needs in the Municipality of Klucze, increasing the awareness of residents of the Municipality of Klucze about violence.
The beneficiaries of the project were families/persons from the area of the Municipality of Klucze, who were threatened by the phenomenon of family violence, with particular emphasis on the elderly (65+), disabled people (adults and children) and their caregivers. The direct target group was people working to prevent family violence in the Municipality of Klucze.
As part of the activities, 48 educational-promotional-informational meetings were organized in all socio-districts, schools, kindergartens and Senior Citizens'' Homes in the Klucze Municipality, the main purpose of which was to raise awareness related to the phenomenon of violence, as well as to develop communication skills. Participants of the project throughout its duration, could benefit from the guidance of three specialists: a lawyer, psychologist and social worker.
Within the framework of the activities created/implemented:
- Sociotherapeutic groups in the form of group and individual classes,
- Psychotherapeutic groups in the form of group classes,
- “Summer Picnic”, the purpose of which was to draw attention to the problem of violence, increase awareness of the local community about the phenomenon of violence and familiarize as many residents as possible with the project,
- Wilderness therapy, which is based mainly on interactions through the group, when in situations of contact with nature there is a break from the problematic context,
- Literary and art contest with the meaningful title “Without violence, life is cool - remember it exactly”,
- Developed “Diagnosis of the phenomenon of violence in the Municipality of Klucze with particular attention to the elderly and people with disabilities”
- Conference summarizing the project.
An extremely important aspect was also to strengthen the knowledge and skills of employees working to prevent family violence, which will be used in further work with people both experiencing violence and those who are particularly vulnerable to this phenomenon. Those working to prevent family violence were able to take advantage of the following training courses, among others:
- Self-defense course for employees,
- “Building a coherent system for counteracting domestic violence under the amended law on counteracting domestic violence” ,
- “Legal and practical aspects of the application of the ‘Blue Cards’ procedure after the amendment of the Law on Counteracting Domestic Violence”,
- “Practical application of the procedure ‘Blue Cards’ after the amendment of the Law on Counteracting Domestic Violence and according to the new regulation”,
- Supervision for social workers,
- “Training in replacing aggression”,
- “Violence in the workplace - bullying, discrimination, behavior incompatible with the rules of social coexistence”,
- Training Power of Support “How to effectively work with a person experiencing violence”,
- Workshops/instructions on proper behavior towards victims of violence.
The project not only contributed to supporting people experiencing violence, but also integrated the team of employees of the Social Service Center, discovering their potential and possibilities for creative and active social assistance. Participation in this project is not only a step in the fight against violence, but also the opening of new paths in the approach to support the local community.
Many of the activities undertaken were implemented by the Beneficiary for the first time. The Beneficiary drew constructive conclusions and responded to the reported needs on an ongoing basis. These activities resulted in the Beneficiary gaining a great deal of experience in both effectively informing and educating residents and project participants. Forms of support were introduced that were based on actual needs. This was extremely important, especially since, given the rural area, where the topic of violence is taboo, activities often had to be carried out in the field in order to reach people at risk of and experiencing domestic violence with information and education. Through such activities and direct contact, trust and proper communication with those experiencing violence was built, and residents were made aware of the importance of not giving in to violence and taking advantage of available support.
The actions taken under the project, of course, do not completely solve the problem of violence in the municipality, but thanks to the knowledge gained, the Beneficiary will begin to develop a model aimed at reducing the incidence of domestic violence in the Klucze Municipality.
It is also extremely important to cover the project participants with long-term support, which will allow them to effectively work through their problems and at the same time allow to check to what extent the acquired skills of the project participants affect their attitudes towards the phenomenon of domestic violence.
Using the knowledge gained, the Beneficiary concluded that when starting to work with people experiencing violence or at risk of this phenomenon, it is worth focusing on individual services that will allow them to get used to the subject, but at a later stage the most effective are forms of group support, which create an excellent opportunity for social integration and exchange of experiences between participants, as well as contribute to the creation of strong bonds and mutual support. From the “Diagnosis of the phenomenon of violence on the territory of the Municipality of Klucze with particular emphasis on the elderly and people with disabilities”, developed for the project, it is indeed recommended to continue the activities initiated in the project, in particular: wilderness therapy, integration of the environment of people at risk of domestic violence into the local community or sociotherapeutic classes.
In summary: participation in the project and active involvement of employees in all project activities allowed to gain knowledge and experience, which will be used in the creation of strategies or design of services that in the future the Beneficiary will be able to offer to residents of the Municipality of Klucze.
