Description
The aim of the project is to improve the functioning of the domestic violence prevention system in the cross-border region by creating a platform for coordinated activities in this area, i.e. a local Family Centre.
The innovative assumptions are: implementation of remote assistance for people in crisis (emergency telephone intervention) and introduction of legal assistance for Polish-speaking people from the cross-border area, who are in relationship with German citizens.
The project assumes increasing the competences of professionals working in areas of potential threat of violence, supporting women, teachers, support for parents, including those of children with diagnosed disabilities and neuroatypicals, support for children and youth; support for the local community and Internet users as part of universal prevention.
Activities within the project have been planned to support equal treatment and prevent exclusion of people with disabilities (some of activities organised on a remote basis). When selecting contractors activities do not discriminate in any way against people with disabilities or other limitations.
Activities within the project will be available to all interested people regardless of gender.
At the same time, the main objective of the project - counteracting domestic violence - must take into account the specificity of this violence, the victims of which - according to the analysis of this problem on a national and local scale - are overwhelmingly women. Therefore, the project includes activities dedicated to women.
Most of the activities planned in the project are of educational nature, in areas related to the risk of domestic violence. Therefore, it must cover equality topics. Wide acceptance of gender equality and the resulting consequences regarding social and professional roles, equal rights and obligations, is a basic element of early anti-violence prevention.
The project assumes equal participation of women and men in its management.
Summary of project results
The Gubin project was aimed, first and foremost, at improving the functioning of the anti-violence system and preventing violence in the cross-border (Polish-German) region. The main idea was to create a comprehensive program to prevent domestic violence. The organiserz wanted to build a network, consisting of specialists from various city and local government institutions, at different levels, who were to help people experiencing, as well as at risk of, violence.
The project introduced an innovative remote assistance method for people in crisis by conducting telephone support for people in domestic violence crisis. City residents were able to participate in workshops on building positive relationships in the family and controlling emotions. Self-defense workshops were conducted for people at risk of or experiencing violence. Employees of institutions that work with these individuals underwent a series of training sessions to provide even more effective support to those in need. In addition, training workshops were held for parents on communication and relationship building, workshops to support parents of children with disabilities, and classes to raise awareness of this issue for the children themselves. In addition, the project organized access to a Polish-German lawyer and held two large events to integrate whole families through fun, entertainment and educational workshops.
Thanks to the implementation of the project “HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS - UNITED FAMILY”, it was possible to help in a measurable way those affected by and at risk of domestic violence. One of the main goals was to improve the functioning of the domestic violence prevention system. The project envisaged that 35 cases of domestic violence would be reported, but unfortunately only 25 such reports were received. Probably one of the reasons for this is that, thanks to the implementation of the project, the awareness of those involved in the NK procedure has been increased, and they are better able to distinguish domestic violence from family conflict, in the case of which a domestic violence report card is not set up.
It should also be pointed out that the project itself certainly contributed to the reduction of the number of the aforementioned report cards due to the fact that its goal was to improve relations and increase the level of awareness of the issue of violence. These effects were achieved through training of professionals and workshops/meetings/picnics for residents of the city of Gubin.
On the other hand, this project reached almost 2,000 people, which, with a small town like Gubin (about 15,000 residents), should be considered a big success
