The aim of the project is to implement in the Chojnów commune the new model of domestic violence prevention (as created under PDP2). The model will be a “tool” used to reduce the phenomenon of domestic violence by improving the quality of relationships in the family, in particular between spouses/partners.
To reach this aim, the activities will target the original causes of various forms of domestic violence as well as raising the awareness what kind of behaviour can be classified as domestic violence or can lead to domestic violence.
The prevention activities will be conducted at three levels: universal, selective and indicative and they will be implemented by: hampering the factors, which cause potential threats and encouraging the activity in desirable areas.
The project envisages the creation of the Family Centre, which will operate under the network model.
The project is to improve the functioning of the family violence prevention system, and consequently reduce the occurrence of domestic violence.
The Family Centre will be based on the current system and on the cooperation between and the activities of the municipality institutions. In particular it will concentrate on the cooperation between the Municipal Social Service Centre (GOPS), the representatives of schools, kindergartens, Police Departments and Caritas branches. Additionally, there will be established cooperation between the Family Centre and the Council Psychological - Pedagogical Dispensary in the context of different support forms and cooperation.
The activities under the project will promote the principles of non-discrimination, gender equality, mutual respect, and human conflicts resolution without violence, they rely on common values of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law and human rights, including the rights of minorities.
Summary of project results
The goal of the project was to implement a new domestic violence prevention model. The model is a “tool” to reduce the phenomenon of domestic violence by improving the quality of relationships in the family, especially between spouses/partners. Within the framework of the model, a Center for Families was created which is based mainly on the current system of work and cooperation and activities of institutions in the municipality. The Center for Families focuses on the cooperation of the Municipality''s Social Welfare Center, representatives of the school complex, the District Psychological and Pedagogical Clinic and external specialists in the implementation of forms of support and cooperation. Partners in the project were the Amicus Cordis Foundation and the ARS AUXLILIUM Foundation. These entities carried out training activities and an information and promotional campaign during the implementation of the project. The offer of the Center for Families combines activities of an open nature for the entire community and is aimed at individuals and families at risk.
Project activities included;
- the model implementation team was formed,
- a group for the implementation of the model was created,
- therapy for couples and family members as a countermeasure to the phenomenon in families where violence was suspected,
- support for patchwork families (high-risk group) as part of selective prevention. Support of an educator/psych. in individual and group form,
- parenting competencies - school for parents within the framework of selective prevention
- a birthing school has been established and is operational
- RESQL tool implemented in 6 elementary schools in the rural municipality ( a friendly tool for children to report peer violence anonymously)
- professionals were trained
- a social campaign has been implemented.
During the period of project implementation, a social campaign targeting the entire community on the topic of preventiing domestic violence was conducted in the Municipality. The activities were aimed at raising public awareness, including at the family level, about various forms of violence, counteracting discrimination and combating stereotypes, prejudices and harmful practices, and promoting equal treatment of women and men. The social campaign was implemented through information about the implementation of the project and the activities undertaken in it which were posted on posters in the rural municipality in places such as bus stops, elementary schools, health clinics, the Chojnów municipality office.
