Description
Our company was set up for the purpose of constructing the Narusa Leśna Przystań tourist resort located in Frombork in the vicinity of the Vistula Lagoon and focused on promoting ecological solutions and recreation close to nature. The recent Vistula Spit transection offers opportunities for tourism development, but to minimize environmental damage, it is necessary to implement new standards of conduct. Our project is a response to a niche related to the lack of modern, eco-friendly tourism services in the area. Its objective is to develop and implement a comprehensive sports tourism service based on state-of-the-art electromobility solutions powered by green energy. Dedicated software will be used to manage energy use and the fleet of electric vehicles/vessels acquired under the project: 2 houseboats (overnight and event), 2 catamarans, 3 buoys, 4 meleks, cross mopeds, bicycles, a jet ski and others. Our intention is to close the resort area to internal combustion engines and noise-generating equipment.
In addition to the vehicles, the project covers the acquisition of: a 6-stand shelter with photovoltaics (carport), an energy storage, and a PLC driver with software, and development of the app and marketing strategy for the new service. A research unit will help us design the optimal use of PV electricity supplying vehicles and vessels, and develop recommended tourist routes. The application will offer a choice of a dozen tourist routes to visit the region’s most interesting spots, and of tours based on current events taking place in the region. Each route will be described in detail covering the places worth visiting, the length of the route and the time needed depending on the means of transport. Users will be able to travel along a specific trail (track) displayed in the application.
Summary of project results
One of the main challenges we encountered during the project was the low competitiveness of the market in certain procurement areas. As a result, some tenders received only one offer, which significantly limited our ability to negotiate.
Another difficulty we faced was the large fluctuations in the prices of materials and raw goods necessary for the production of the fixed assets we ordered. This directly impacted our plans, requiring changes to the budgets or, in some cases, a reduction in the quantities of items we could procure.
The timeline of the project was also affected by changes in European Union customs regulations for products originating from Asian markets. Due to these changes, fixed assets ordered by the supplier were held at the port during one of the tasks, causing delays that extended beyond the initially planned project completion date.
As part of the project, the following achievements were made:
• A photovoltaic power plant with an energy storage system was purchased and configured, along with the development of algorithms necessary for efficient management of stored energy based on the current needs of the Beneficiary’s hotel facility.
• Fixed assets, including electric-powered vehicles and boat, were acquired. This provided tourists, hotel guests, and local residents with the opportunity to explore the surrounding areas emission-free, in the quiet of electric motors, and without disturbing the natural environment.
• Infrastructure for charging electric cars was created.
• The project''s implementation included reviewing the existing marketing communication strategy and introducing a new one.
• A mobile application was developed to improve access to the product offerings resulting from the project.
• An algorithmic mechanism was created to predict tourist activity in the region.
• An educational offering was designed using purchased telescopes and equipment for nighttime nature observation.
The beneficiaries of the project include not only the Eco-Masuria Invest company but also the guests visiting the Beneficiary''s hotel. By establishing a power plant that generates electricity from renewable sources and using a tourist traffic prediction mechanism supported by the mobile application developed during the project, we can utilize stored electricity more efficiently, ensuring it is available when most needed.
The project also benefits the residents of Frombork and the Warmia and Mazury region. The introduction of an electric vehicle rental service has significantly enhanced the region''s tourist appeal. A catamaran-style boat was purchased as part of the project, enabling scenic cruises on the Vistula Lagoon and creating a waterway connection between Frombork and the Vistula Spit, powered entirely by electricity.
Another group of beneficiaries includes tourists visiting the region. A new website was developed during the project to better showcase the available offerings and promote Frombork as a tourist-friendly city. Expanding the hotel''s offerings to include electric vehicles has also improved connectivity between Frombork''s city center and the Beneficiary’s hotel, located 2 km away.
All these services are easily accessible to the aforementioned beneficiaries through the mobile application funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
