Description
Marina Topacz, offering 40 berths for yachts, is one of the largest marinas in Wrocław. Its central location on the Odra river, in close proximity to the city’s major tourist attractions, generates a lot of customer interest, while at the same time introducing major constraints on its operation. The city’s numerous bridges and locks do not allow larger vessels to dock. Hence our project is aimed at introducing a new port service which will provide berths for transport companies operating along the Odra Waterway. The project includes preparatory works, and the purchase and installation of 40 floating jetties with equipment such as electric boat charging stations with photovoltaic panels.
Floating waste on the Odra waters, which has so far flown into the Baltic Sea, is a problem for all river users, so we have planned to introduce services of cleaning the surface of the river with a waste collection boat to be purchased under the project. The catamaran will keep the surroundings of the floating piers clean by removing floating debris, which will translate into increased attractiveness of the moorings offered by the marina. The device will also be used to provide floating waste clean-up services on any section of the Odra river in Wrocław. Wody Polskie – the National Water Management Authority will be one of the recipients of these services. The vessel will collect garbage in special cans. So far, this type of waste has been trapped on weirs and then from time to time let down further where it settled on next weirs, and so travelled all the way to the Baltic Sea. The project will therefore benefit the aquatic environment locally and more broadly, as the garbage will be removed from the water on an ongoing basis.
Summary of project results
The project was intended to meet the need to welcome more ships to the port of Wrocław to transport goods and people, improve the quality of the natural environment and influence the development of our business and increase the competitiveness of the services we provide.
The aim of the project was to expand our offer with the possibility of providing a significantly improved port service consisting in providing mooring places for vessels, primarily belonging to entities conducting transport activities, and implementing a completely new, innovative service related to river cleaning.
These services could be provided through the purchase of 40 floating piers with equipment, which were to constitute port infrastructure, and the purchase of a floating unit for cleaning water reservoirs. The unit would reduce garbage pollution in the immediate vicinity of the floating piers, which was to constitute an added value of the project, positively affecting the local cleanliness of the Odra River flowing through Wrocław. This process was aimed at reducing the pollution of inland waters.
The implementation of new services was to enable further development of our business, including an increase in revenues, employment and an increase in the company''s competitiveness on both the local and regional markets.
The full scope of work was carried out as part of the project. 42 pcs. floating piers, 62 pcs. mooring legs, 4 pcs. gangways and pontoon equipment: 70 pcs. pedestals supplying electricity and water, 10 pcs. boat charging station, 11 pcs. rescue stations, 11 pcs. safety ladders. In addition, a vessel for cleaning water bodies and the delivery of a power station for charging the ship were delivered. Port infrastructure was installed and installations were connected. In the scope of the works, the required notifications and registration of floating objects were made.
The implemented service based on purchased and installed floating piers will increase our competitiveness and strengthen our position as one of the leaders of the local port services market, and thus enable further development of our business. The water reservoir cleaning unit purchased as part of the project allowed for the implementation of a new service consisting in cleaning the Odra River from pollutants floating on it (mainly of anthropogenic origin). Due to the possibility of receiving more units for transporting people at the port, the number of tourists coming to the modern port will increase, the demand for other tourist services will increase, which will increase the number of jobs in the industry and the development of local businesses related to tourism.
As a result of the project, two services were introduced: a significantly improved port service consisting in providing mooring places for vessels and a completely innovative service of cleaning marine water reservoirs from macroscopic surface pollutants. The implemented project is of significant importance for various groups of end users. The innovation of the project is crucial for two groups of direct recipients: the target customers and the Applicant himself. The target customers are entrepreneurs operating in Wrocław or Lower Silesia – target customers of the marina, transporting people or goods, and companies interested in purchasing water purification services. The implementation of the project will provide the Applicant with higher revenues and an increase in competitiveness and development of the company.
Due to the possibility of receiving more passenger transport ships in the port, the number of tourists coming to the modern port will increase, and the demand for other tourist services will increase. This will increase the number of jobs in the industry and the development of local businesses related to tourism. The water purification service will reduce the pollution of inland waters. The ship will remove waste from the water, preventing it from moving further.
The implementation of the project will create conditions that will allow residents to be closer to urban rivers (especially the Oder) and will enable their economic use.
The implementation of marketing activities will increase awareness of the prevention of pollution of water reservoirs and the use of NFM 2014-2021 funding sources for the implementation of the project.
