Description

Wiar provides its clients from the construction industry with a year-round supply of construction and road aggregates such as washed sand, gravel and coarse aggregates. The aim of the project is to implement a low-emission technology for extracting and processing enriched mixtures of sand and gravel aggregates, which will allow the company to stay ahead of market trends related to sustainable development requirements. We are planning to construct a processing and mixing line, purchase machines and carry out development works. The aim of R&D is to determine the optimal composition of mixtures and confirm their suitability in construction by testing their physical and chemical properties. The project provides added value in the environmental dimension by reducing the amount of waste generated and ensuring that part of the waste can then be recycled. 25% of dust fractions generated during production activities will be recovered. In addition, we expect a reduction of carbon emission by 61% thanks to the use of belt conveyors instead of wheeled transport.

Summary of project results

ACTIONS TO BE CARRIED OUT UNDER THE PROJECT NECESSARY TO IMPLEMENT THE TECHNOLOGY:

The implementation of technology as part of the project consisted in the activities of the Applicant, as a result of which the idea constituting the idea of the new technology described in the application for co-financing was implemented by creating a technological line (including a crusher, processing and mixing line, wheel loader, crawler excavator, production system to support industrial automation of the implemented technology), in which the implemented technology is used in practice. As a result, a process innovation was used, which contributed to a significant improvement in the physical parameters of the products and to reducing the negative impact on the environment (Wiar River ecosystem).

Development work was also carried out to optimize the operation of individual components of the technological line in order to develop precise guidelines for the process of mixing various fractions responsible for the composition of the improved product. For this purpose, in parallel to the construction of the technological line, work was carried out on the selection of components and calibration of line elements responsible for recovering and mixing the dust fraction, including programming and testing of industrial automation and testing of the physical properties of the resulting aggregate mixtures in selected scientific research units, so to obtain a product that can be used in construction (both traditional and specialized). This product meets basic construction standards while obtaining better physical parameters (viscosity, abrasion, strength)

The aim of the project was to increase the competitiveness of the company on the domestic market by implementing a nationally innovative low-emission and low-waste technology for the extraction and processing of enriched aggregate mixtures.

Technology goals:

- improved the parameters of the obtained sand mixtures, which enables the expansion of the use of the offered products, the creation of new sand or gravel mixtures with a regulated admixture of fine fraction (0-1), as well as sand and gravel mixtures enriched with the 0-1 fraction

- enabled the recovery of the fine fraction and its reuse in the product, which resulted in a reduction in the amount of waste generated and released back into the environment

- contributed to the reduction of CO2 and other gas emissions into the environment by replacing part of road transport with conveyor transport (including the loading process)

The innovation used in the company contributed to the increase in the competitiveness of the applicant through:

Reducing fuel consumption in the process of aggregate extraction and processing. As a result, fuel costs will decrease compared to current expenses per 1,000 tons of processed product.

As a result of the project, a technology for extracting and processing enriched sand and gravel aggregate mixtures with a regulated amount of fine fractions was implemented. This technology improved the parameters of the obtained sand mixtures, which enabled the expansion of the use of the offered products. The implemented technology also enabled the recovery of a fine fraction and its reuse in the product, which resulted in a reduction in the amount of waste generated and returned to the environment. CO2 and other gas emissions into the environment were also reduced by replacing part of road transport with conveyor transport.

The benefits from the implementation of the project concern the Applicant (Wiar company) and the natural environment (ecosystem of the Wiar River), as well as the local environment in which the Applicant operates (better condition of the environment, additional jobs, increase in ecological awareness and development of local business cooperating with the Applicant).
