Description

One of WIRA’s fields of activity is the production (purchase and packaging) and trading of healthy food, plus related services rendered to the target distributor. However, technological limitations resulting from our ageing machinery park have until now prevented us from implementing biodegradable packaging, and consequently from cooperation with distributors from Western and Northern Europe. Therefore, we have come up with a project which will help WIRA replace the packaging used to-date with recyclable and biodegradable packaging for BIO food. It requires the purchase of machines for the automated production line, and the construction of a production building in which the process will be implemented. The environment-friendly solutions used in the building will make it highly energy-efficient. That will account for the following environmental benefits: a yearly reduction of energy consumption by our plant by 0.01 GWh, a yearly reduction of CO2 emissions by 3.71 tons and a yearly reduction of waste produced by 122.41 tons. In addition, the project will result in the employment of 7 new people, a turnover increase by 42%, and an increase of profits by 23%.

Summary of project results

This project involves an investment in environmentally friendly technological solutions that aim to contribute to the development of our company by increasing revenues, profits, and employment, as well as improving waste management and energy efficiency. The realization of this goal was achieved by replacing the current packaging of our products with new biodegradable alternatives. This required the purchase of machinery and equipment for production, as well as the construction of a new production facility where these new packaging materials could be manufactured. The new facility was designed with a focus on improving energy efficiency through the use of eco-friendly solutions.

Following the implementation of the biodegradable and recyclable packaging system, the company and its distributor will no longer introduce products to the market in non-biodegradable and non-recyclable plastic packaging, which will allow the amount of such waste produced to be reduced to zero.

Shortly after the facility and production line were launched, the company has been working on additional project indicators such as reducing annual CO2 emissions by 37% (3.71 tons/year) and decreasing energy consumption (with savings of 15%).

The actions taken have also led to a 42% increase in turnover and a 23% net annual increase in operating profits.

As a result of the project, the company acquired property for the investment, built
a production facility, purchased a modern production line, implemented an innovative product packaging solution, designed new biodegradable packaging materials, and created 7 new jobs.

The sum of these achieved indicators and results will significantly enhance the ompetitiveness of our company, both domestically and internationally.
