Description

“MACIEJ” is a family company which has been on the market for over 30 years and specializes in road construction. The project will help introduce innovation and environmentally friendly technologies to our work, and consolidate our own research potential. We introduce a novel product to the market: a road surface based on innovative mineral-asphalt mixtures with up to 40% of asphalt granulate, featuring enhanced resistance to rutting and cracking and an extended life cycle. The production technology using a new type of chemical compound improves the mechanical and aging durability of the road surface. These mixtures will be built in and compacted by modern road machinery, and applied in the maintenance and repairs of urban / local / self- government roads in order to restore or improve the load-bearing capacity of the existing pavement, and, concurrently, to protect it against harmful weather conditions.

At the same time, we will launch an in-house process innovation – a significantly improved method of laying and rolling asphalt mixtures at production temperatures reduced by approx. 20-30 °C.

The project covers the purchase of the modern vibrating rollers and a crawler-type asphalt paver, which – together with an integrated computer software – will help prevent surface defects which often occur when older-generation machines are used in road construction. In addition, we will order development works to execute a reference road section under various climatic conditions, and to develop the composition and production technology of the new mixtures. These will be tested for workability at the production stage and compaction when incorporated into the road surface.

The project implementation will contribute to the reduction of CO2 annual emissions by 2.15 tons in 2023.

Summary of project results

The project promotor operates in the road construction industry, where it is extremely important to take into account environmental aspects in terms of sustainable development, including recycling and reinstallation of damaged road surfaces, while ensuring the highest standards of user safety and the quality and durability of mineral and asphalt surfaces. As part of the project, research was carried out, including laboratory tests on the development of a mineral-asphalt mixture with the addition of Cecabase RT Bio 10, which shows the characteristics of good workability at reduced technological temperatures. The implementation of the project allowed the launch of a new innovative product in the form of a road surface produced in the technology of mineral and asphalt mixtures with a share of up to 40% of asphalt granulate.

Thanks to the modern machines purchased in the project – vibratory tandem roller, vibratory combi roller, tracked bituminous mass spreader, process innovation was also introduced in the company. The beneficiary effectively builds roads – spreads and rolls the laid mineral-asphalt mixture. The product offered by the beneficiary in the form of a surface, thanks to the mixture used and its precise distribution, makes the substrate and temperature indicator of the compacted asphalt mixture stand out in comparison to conventional technologies with very high quality and life, high stability and resistance to plastic deformation and wear, high stiffness index and compaction coefficient.

As a result of the implemented project – and the innovations carried out, the project will contribute to achieving environmental effects in the form of reducing CO2 emissions to the atmosphere by 2.15 tons / year, reaching the value of 1.1 tons / year. In addition, two permanent jobs were created as a result of the project. The effect of the project is also the expansion of the range of clients and the possibility of appearing on the market with new technologies, and thus increasing competitiveness on the market. The company can perform road surfaces and lay asphalt-bitumen at low ambient temperatures – autumn and winter seasons, thus extending the period of activity and increasing the value of the company''s revenues. The project also contributes to raising public awareness of co-financing from the Norway Grants through information activities.
