Description

The success of Diet & Training by Ann and OXY Diet has encouraged the leadership of DIETLABS MEDTECH to develop and market mobile apps supporting people with diabetes and Hashimoto''s disease. These apps are to become holistic tools to help sufferers and provide many innovative functionalities, such as the capacity to generate personalized nutrition plans adapted to their treatment methods and motivational modules to improve the level of "self-management", i.e. the ability to cope with the disease and lifestyle changes.

The project includes the purchase of development works, performance of usability tests and the purchase of specialist and technological consulting services. Strategic analysis, consultations with nutritionists, legal advice and mentoring services will also be carried out. Upon completion of the project, a website dedicated to the effects of the project will be launched.

The project aims not only to increase the knowledge of customers, but also to improve the skills and competencies of the entrepreneur and the development of the company. We hope that our innovative solution will start a little revolution and contribute to raising awareness and changing habits in the society on a large scale. This could prove especially important during crisis situations similar to the current Covid-19 pandemic which makes it difficult for patients to meet the needs of daily life, such as buying medications.

Summary of project results

The main problem we encountered during the project was the inability to complete one of the tasks due to a technological blockage that we were unable to predict. Therefore, it was necessary to change its content. This change was related to large corporations withdrawing the ability to integrate external applications (Google, Amazon), which we planned to use in the above project. We had to use a different, better solution, one that actually added value to the app and ultimately achieved the same goal.

It was also necessary to extend some tasks due to the prolonged process of preparing and conducting the request for quotation and the difficulty in obtaining an offer from the R&D unit.

The project aimed to create software in the form of mobile applications that are a comprehensive tool for people suffering from diabetes and Hashimoto''s disease.

The activities included: work in the field of dietetics (with the participation of the research and development unit), psychology, preparation of UX mockups, programming, marketing, and legal consultations.

As an output, mobile applications were created containing an interactive individual diet plan for people with type I and II diabetes, insulin resistance, prediabetes and Hashimoto. The diet is also adapted to the treatment method. Users can exchange ingredients and recipes if they don''t like something. Additionally, users have access to a shopping list and the ability to monitor their hydration.

The applications also include a psychological module - mindfulness, which includes techniques for dealing with stress, conversations with Coach, motivational quotes and educational modules with career advice. The psychological aspect is very important in this group of patients.

Additionally, the platform also allows  to monitor glycemic level and facilitates the calculation of insulin units using the bolus calculator. The patient also has the option of adding his/her other blood test results to the application, to monitor health status. The application allows monitoring body weight measurements, which helps to reach patient goals.

The result of the project is the development and implementation on the market of an innovative solution in the form of a complete platform with a holistic approach  for diabetics and people with Hashimoto''s disease  . The main goal and assumption of the project is to help this group of patients. These mobile applications  generate a health program implemented to achieve the patient''s goal. These are holistic mobile tools in two versions, which allow for strengthening self-management of the disease. They promote two new paradigms in public health: active patient involvement in the treatment process and the use of mobile technologies for this purpose.
