Description

Design and Business specialises in industrial design consultancy services. The project objective is to develop and implement an innovative service for consultancy, design and production of prototypes and pilot series of intelligent eco-friendly packaging for small batch production, based on environmentally friendly technologies. At the same time we will launch a line of eco-friendly, intelligent food packaging made exclusively from natural, biodegradable components.

Our hospitality industry customers will benefit from this project in the form of fast and inexpensive prototyping of new solutions and the capacity to have non-standard orders processed. It will also combat food waste by introducing packaging that extends shelf life, minimising the use of single-use plastic products and meeting zero waste and sustainability standards.

Under the project consultancy services will be provided, and fixed and intangible assets will be purchased: 3D scanner, 3D printer, cutting-bigging plotter, RFID label printer, CAD software, mobile application. We plan to achieve an environmental effect by reducing the use of raw materials for production by at least 15% (0.01 tons) - waste will not exceed 12 kg per year.

 

Summary of project results

There are many entities on the market that specialize in the production of packaging for various sectors of the economy. They offer a wide range of assortment, which is based on standardized dimensions of dimensions and a limited range of materials used. This is because these entities have to match raw materials to the equipment at their disposal. In addition, due to the need to change the calibration of equipment, individualized orders, in the packaging industry, are realized only in large volumes. By contrast, the HoReCa industry strives for personalized products and attractive packaging. The peculiarities of this industry force business owners to constantly adapt their offerings, not only to the changes that are taking place in the market (e.g. eco food trend, change of seasons, COVID-19), but also to the expectations of individual customers (holidays, anniversaries, weddings). There are many needs in this area, and the market still lacks a comprehensive solution dedicated to the HoReCa industry, which would enable effective project development, its prototyping and production of short series of eco-packaging. The implementation of our project was to provide a solution to this problem. This is because the aim of the project was to develop the company, including, above all, to increase its competitiveness through the development and implementation into the business of an innovative service of consulting, design and production of prototype elements and short series of pilot, intelligent, eco-friendly packaging for small batch production, based on environmentally friendly technologies. In turn, the overarching goal is to develop a concept for a new service that is completely customized to the individual needs of the customer, which will use only certified materials at the production stage suitable for complete recycling. In addition, new features will be given to packaging in the form of virtual reality (RFiD technology, NFC tag), which will contain information about the product and the further life of the packaging, including proper waste segregation, upcycling. The goal of the project has been 100% achieved.

The product was implemented in the following stages:

Stage I: Design process, consisting of the following sentences:

1. purchase of a consulting service for performing a product feasibility study

2. purchase of a consulting service for the discovery and definition of the service

3. purchase of a consulting service for the development of concepts and designs for eco-packaging

4. purchase of a consulting service for the development of the service design

5. purchase of consulting service in the field of making and testing product prototypes

6. purchase of consulting service in the field of service delivery

Stage II: Service/product implementation process:

1. Development of a marketing strategy for the implementation of the new service and product resulting from the service into the market:

- Development of a strategy for implementation in the HoReCa market at the national level and the European market including Scandinavia

- Preparation of the form of communication of the new service/ product resulting from the service.

Stage III: Purchase of production means to provide the new service:

- purchase of creasing and cutting plotter -1 pc.

- purchase of RFID printer - 1 pc.

- purchase of artificial intelligence-assisted system - comprehensive software, with mobile application, controlled by artificial intelligence to recognize the needs of the customer packaging/packaging prototype and to prepare virtual packaging models - 1 pc.

Stage IV: Purchase of software to improve the company''s recycling efficiency:

- purchase of production management system – 1 pc.

The implementation of the project led to the launch of an innovative service in the field of designing eco-friendly packaging in small batches for the HoReCa industry. This goal was achieved in an ecological way, as the company also implemented a production management system, thanks to which it led to a reduction in the amount of waste generated. The direct results of the project in quantitative terms are:

- Number of innovative products (products or services) introduced to the market (commercialized) as a result of the project: 1 unit.

- Number of innovative products (products or services) developed in the enterprise as a result of the project: 1 unit.

- Number of mentoring services applied at the enterprise: 1 unit.

- Number of jobs created (total): 1 FTE

- Estimated annual volume of waste from production and operation of the enterprise that was not generated: 0.01 tons

- Estimated annual increase in annual turnover: 5%

- Estimated annual increase in annual net operating profits: 3%

The results of the project have a wide range of impacts primarily on our company by:
