Description

BISS printing house offers foil packaging with flexographic printing for Polish and foreign markets. The main customers od BISS are large production companies from the food, confectionery, meat, horticultural and chemical industries. The project idea stems from our need to optimise the printing process and reduce the costs of electricity and heat consumption. The benefits of implementing the project include streamlining the material ordering process, reducing waste from the lamination and slitter process and branding the company as environmentally friendly.

That will be achieved through the development of an IT programme enabling accurate calculation of the roll size of foil used in the manufacturing process of packaging. As a result, order volumes will be adjusted to minimise waste and the number of material combinations during the production process will be reduced, which will lead to a 5% annual reduction in production waste, i.e. 5.5 tons. BISS also plans to purchase and install photovoltaic panels, a free cooling chiller, a screw compressor with PTG plate heat exchanger system and a heating and ventilation system with heat recovery. These investments will increase energy efficiency and reduce our demand for electricity from traditional sources by 0.11 GWh, thereby reducing the  CO2 emissions by 100.27 tons.

Summary of project results

The main need to implement the project from the point of view of BISS''s activities was the need to develop and implement an optimization solution in the area of product printing.

This optimization involved the development of a computer program enabling accurate calculations of the dimensions (roll size) of the foil used in the packaging production process. This allowed us to optimize the size of orders and reduce the number of connections during the production process, which resulted in a reduction in the amount of waste generated during production.

Another problem and need of BISS was to reduce the costs of electricity and heat consumption. This need will be met by launching a photovoltaic installation, a heating and ventilation system with heat recovery and installing a heat pump.

The implementation of the innovative solution will allow the Company to achieve significant financial and ecological effects.

The project concerned the development and implementation of an optimization solution in the area of product printing. This optimization involved the development of a computer program enabling accurate calculations of the dimensions (roll size) of the foil used in the packaging production process. This allowed us to optimize the size of orders and reduce the number of connections during the production process, which will translate into a reduction in the amount of waste generated during production. Another integral element of the project was the purchase of machines and devices enabling the optimization of electricity and heat consumption in the plant. This was possible thanks to the launch of a photovoltaic installation, a ventilation system with heat recovery, a screw compressor with a system of PTG plate heat exchangers and the installation of a heat pump. The project''s goals were consistent with the goals of the "environmentally friendly technologies" scheme. The project enabled the implementation of innovative activities and increased the competitiveness of the Applicant using environmentally friendly technological solutions. It also included the implementation of an innovative solution in the area of production, which will lead to the development of the entrepreneur''s business activity, in particular an increase in revenues, profit, and at the same time better waste management, energy efficiency, reduced emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere, and more efficient material management.

All project products have a neutral impact on the principle of equal opportunities for women and men and non-discrimination, including accessibility for people with disabilities. The project also has a positive impact on the principle of sustainable development.

The following result indicators were achieved:

  1. Number of innovative solutions used in the enterprise as a result of the project (new for the enterprise) – 1
  2. Number of innovative solutions developed in the enterprise as a result of the project – 1
  3. Result indicators planned to be achieved within 12 months after the end of the project:
  4. Estimated reduction in annual CO2 emissions - 100.27 tons
  5. Estimated reduction in annual energy consumption - electricity 0.09 GWh (estimation update)
  6. Estimated annual volume of waste from the production and operation of the enterprise that has been processed, recovered or not generated - 5.50 tons
  7. Estimated annual net operating profit growth – 5% (updated estimate)
