Description

We are Foundation for the Development of Warmia and Mazury Region whose mission is to support disadvantaged groups in our community, and in particular children with developmental challenges.

The Transgenerational Centre for Rehabilitation and Education will offer broadly understood psychological rehabilitation through didactic activity, intended mainly for children and youth suffering from psychiatric and neurological conditions and sensory integration dysfunctions. It will also help the elderly at risk of social exclusion.

The Centre will combine didactics with active rehabilitation based on virtual ICT solutions. We will develop a wide range of e-learning courses in the areas of school curriculum (sciences, languages, geography etc.) for different age levels, and technical skills, which will be offered through an internet platform and use the virtual reality technology. Users will be able to take advantage of the courses either at home or in a mobile rehabilitation and education center in the form of an adjusted TIR vehicle. The mobile centre will be equipped with touch screens, tablets, educational robots (KUBO RObotics), iMO-Learn cubes and 15 VR Google sets.

To prepare the courses, experienced school teachers will be involved, as well as a scientific unit which will prepare VR courses for mentally impaired children in two age groups, and for the elderly. Also we will purchase a multifunctional e-learning platform and production services for 180 educational and therapeutic courses using VR technology.

Summary of project results

The main issue that was identified was the lack of a comprehensive offer that includes a wider range of services beyond just rehabilitation. There was no entity that offered a consolidated service combining innovative teaching methods, including VR technologies, with therapy and rehabilitation for children, adolescents, and the elderly. Traditional education based on in-person learning, without the involvement of modern technologies appealing to younger people, has resulted in poor educational progress. Additionally, elderly individuals are unable to familiarise themselves with modern technologies on their own, let alone use them for virtual therapy or personal purposes, such as garden planning. The solution to these identified needs is the Mobile Center—a unique concept in the educational and therapeutic industry, tailored to the needs of people with disabilities. Equipped with extensive technological support, including VR, it addresses the diagnosed issues of the beneficiaries.

The main actions completed within the project are:

1.Conducting Research and Development Activities (01.03.2022 –  30.09.2023)

As part of this activity, FRWM collaborated with the Warsaw University of Technology to develop innovative educational packages for therapeutic, technical, and academic subjects, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, and English, tailored for children, youth, individuals with disabilities, and the elderly. These materials were then  adapted into IT formats (VR, platform, mobile devices) for the fields mentioned above. Completing this development work would allow for the creation of a final product (platform, courses, and lessons).

2. Obtaining an Industrial Design (01.10.2022 – 31.01.2024)

This step involved the registration of copyright for the industrial design.

3. Equipping the Mobile Center (01.12.2022 – 30.04.2024)

This task involved creating a mobile VR-based rehabilitation and education center and equipping it with necessary resources. This included the purchase of a truck, diagnostic equipment for children with hearing impairments, educational robots, educational applications, and VR goggles.

4. Creating a Multifunctional IT Platform (01.10.2022 – 31.07.2023)

This activity entailed developing a platform that serves as a comprehensive tool, allowing users to explore the available lessons and courses. It also involved creating 3D videos and VR applications covering mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, English, technical subjects, and therapeutic content.

The project achieved the following results:

An innovative product—the Intergenerational Rehabilitation and Educational Center and its accompanying platform—was introduced to the market. An industrial design was also obtained. Employment at the Foundation increased by one full-time position, a significant achievement for rural areas, especially since it provides year-round employment. The Center’s offerings also contribute to the development of tourism in the region and country.

This innovative product enhances the existing infrastructure in Poland, positioning the Lubawa municipality as a notable location for pro-health services within Poland and the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The Center’s unique services mark it as a distinctive, innovative service provider.

Through the Center’s activities, knowledge development will flourish. The Center provides increased access to education, training, and rehabilitation for children, youth, seniors, and other stakeholder groups, including individuals with disabilities and those at risk of social exclusion.
