The aim of the project is to use in the AMICUS printing house a hybrid "narrow web" label printing technology combining toner digital printing, UV LED flexo and rotary finishing. Thanks to this technology we will offer a new product in the form of personalised and multi-variant roll labels, including biodegradable labels requiring additional finishing in a single pass. This product will be the result of R&D work carried out by a scientific and research unit. The scope of the project includes the purchase of a roll printing machine with a rewinder and auxiliary equipment and software, as well as the renovation of the premises. The company will also beneficially change its energy balance by increasing the use of renewable energy sources through the installation of photovoltaic panels. This action will reduce CO2 emissions by 8.14 tons per year, as well as other greenhouse gases produced during the production process. The reduction in waste (paper) using the new technology will be around 1.14 tons per year.
Summary of project results
The project concerned the implementation at AMICUS Klaudiusz Nadolny Printing House of a nationally innovative hybrid narrow web label printing technology, combining digital toner printing, flexo UV LED and finishing. Its implementation was to lead to a significant improvement in label production technology, in a company that was to be more environmentally friendly and economical. However, in the course of project activities it became clear that the company would not be able to implement it, and the project was scaled down. It did, however, develop an innovative new product in the form of a biodegradable label. This product is the result of research and development work carried out by the Lodz University of Technology. The product has been successfully implemented on the market. Within the framework of the project, additional measures were also taken to reduce the production impact of the printing house on the environment, the aim of which was to increase the use of energy from RES sources in the company''s energy balance and thus reduce the need for fossil fuels. Photovoltaic panels were purchased and installed to completely cover the company''s electricity needs. The project was implemented in Skórcz and its scope covered the immediate surroundings in the form of the region of the city of Skórcz and the surrounding area, as well as the domestic and international market - Germany.
The purpose of the implemented project was to increase the level of competitiveness of the company DRUKARNIA AMICUS Klaudiusz Nadolny. This goal was achieved through the implementation of the following tasks:
STAGE 1
Execution of renovation works of the room, preparing it for the installation of the new technology.
Implementation period: September 2021 - January 2022
As part of the task, work was carried out to adapt a room in the existing production building with an area of 18m² for the installation of a new production process in it.
STAGE 2
Purchase of machinery and equipment, necessary for the implementation of the new technology.
Implementation period: September 2021 - January 2022
Within the framework of the stage, a computer set with design software was purchased for the graphic preparation of the new product: biodegradable labels.
STAGE 3
Implementation of additional activities aimed at reducing the company''s production impact on the environment.
Implementation period: January 2022- April 2022
Within the framework of the stage, a photovoltaic installation of up to 40 kWp was carried out, the commissioning of which enabled 100% coverage of our company''s electricity needs.
STAGE 4
Conduct development work to develop a new product - a personalized label on a biodegradable substrate.
Implementation period: January 2022- April 2022
Within the scope of the task, the Łódź University of Technology conducted a research process, the result of which was the development of a label on a biodegradable substrate along with the technology for its production. We put the process into production and started manufacturing the new product. It was o launched on the market at the beginning of 2024.
The results of the implemented project are:

4. estimated reduction in annual CO2 emissions - 18.71 tons
5. estimated annual increase in turnover - 11.24%
6. estimated annual increase in net operating profits - 77%
