Description
The main goal of the project is to reduce the economic and social differences within the EEA in the field of education. The indirect goal is to develop and update the educational offer for translators and people working with Hindi and wanting to develop communication skills.
The participants of the project will be professionally active people, including people pursuing business goals (international organizations and corporations, NGOs, translation agencies, cultural institutions, tourist offices), academic teachers, students who are required to know Hindi.
An online trilingual (Hindi-Polish-English) Hindi e-platform will be developed and made available, which will help to raise professional language competences to A1 level. It will contain 30 Hindi lessons and materials on cultural, social, ethical and legal issues related to the professional use of language skills.
The project results assume:
- increasing competences in the field of Hindi language knowledge,
- disseminating knowledge about South Asia (SA),
- developing synergy between academic community and business and administration.
It is assumed that 50 people will use the tool in the first year. Each registered person will have the opportunity to certify their knowledge after completing the course. The result of the project will be disseminated on the websites of the project partners. Its presentation will be preceded by a conference devoted to tools for developing language competences and new perspectives in vocational education in the field of language education and intercultural communication.
The long-term benefits are:
- increasing the knowledge as well as linguistic and cultural competences among people professionally involved in cooperation with SA or willing to start such cooperation,
- the first tool for the education of the Hindi language in Poland, giving the opportunity to obtain certification of acquired knowledge,
- promoting and developing competences also among English-speaking people.
Summary of project results
The online platform for self-learning of Hindi in Polish-Hindi and English-Hindi (RPI1; RPI2) is addressed to professionally active who require a flexible tool available any time. It is a part of lifelong learning process important in case of retraining for constantly changing labour market; reemployment upon returning after breaks; work in international setting. It is the first Hindi course available for people with disabilities (WCAG2.1AA) in 2 languages. The survey on the needs of Hindi learners at 4 Polish, 16 European, 5 American and Asian universities received 25 responses from Poland and 34 from abroad (30 learners, 28 teachers and 1 other).
UAM team developed teaching materialsh: dialogues, texts, vocab, grammar, thematic lists of words and phrases, audio, texts: RPI1. GAF created a complete concept of the application model, including interactive exercises (phonetics, spelling, grammar, lexis, semantics), content configuration and its adaptation to needs of learners with people with disabilities. RPI1 and a complete IT website: RPI2; designed a gamification model as a mechanism for motivation. The platform has 30 lessons: 2 teach writing; 26 contain 2 dialogues and 2 texts with grammar; 2 describe the grammar and its terms. Each lesson includes a text on culture that contains knowledge needed to work in an international setting that requires intercultural communication skills and 2 lists of useful words and phrases. The lists were included because survey respondents noticed the lack of such materials. Lessons are based on communication; they emphasize equality narrative that prevents cultural stereotypes. The UAM and GAF teams tested the platform for 2 months. Project news was published on AMU and GAF websites and social media. We promoted it at dissemination events planned in the project (documented participation of 92 persons) and additional events. They were held in several Polish cities (Wrocław, Poznań, Kraków, Warsaw) to reach people from various regions of Poland. One event took place in Zagreb. UAM teachers promoted it during academic visits: Fiji, Nepal, India, Italy, Lithuania.
This platform is first interactive tool used to hindi laguage self-learning which is included into the idea of social inclusion, both in terms of the availability of materials and flexibility of use for professional people, people looking for a new job, for people with disabilities, as well as the inclusion of the equality narrative. The project shapes competences and skills and promotes values that are important from the point of view of the employee''s functioning in an environment where features such as understanding and sensitivity to the needs of other people go hand in hand with professional linguistic and substantive preparation.
