Description

The project responds to the challenges related to the processes of isolation and misuse of online processes by children and young people. It is necessary to improve the knowledge of pedagogical and therapeutic staff and parents in order to recognise crisis symptoms and to react in time. The main aim of the project is to develop 1 educational programme on how to counteract the negative phenomena in the group of children caused by isolation and functioning online . The main outcome of the project will be a complete programme for children aged 6-10 and 11-15, including lesson plans with a package of interactive materials (tests, exercises, audiocast, video); e-learning training, webinar. A total of 13 Results (RPI''s) will be developed, including the e-learning platform and e-learning manual - important tools to support effective online education.
The target group is employees of educational institutions educating children - teachers, pedagogues, psychotherapists, including social workers.  This group will be required to deliver the lessons. We plan to reach 600 children and 960 parents. The impact of the project should be seen much more widely - through the Polish Teachers'' Union , the Leader has the possibility to send the materials to about 200,000 teachers.  We estimate that the educational programme developed in the project will be used by at least 10 thousand teachers.
The project will be implemented in Partnership - involving a school institution from Iceland, bringing best practices in the field of child welfare, a partner from Poland, also active in the field of child support, and the Leader - specialized in e-learning, responsible mainly for the development and implementation of attractive e-learning formats and a remote learning platform.

Summary of project results

The project responds to the problems associated with the processes of isolation and overuse of online processes by children and young people. These phenomena have increased especially during the pandemic era, having a significant negative impact on the health and well-being of children and young people.  During the remote education period, the average time children spent in front of screens was up to 12 hours; the increased symptoms of problematic online use affect as much as a third of the adolescent population. This is a significant challenge, especially considering the alarmingly high number of teen suicides in Poland.

The main activities in the project concerned the development of educational activities aimed at 1.educational-teaching staff, 2.children in two age groups, 3.parents, supporting the prevention of adverse phenomena occurring in a group of children and young people due to isolation and functioning online. The aim was to provide knowledge and tools to respond adequately to crisis situations of children in remote education. The main results of the project include a complete educational pathway for children aged 6-10 and 11-15, including lesson plans; teaching materials; e-learning training; and a webinar.A total of 12 deliverables were developed, including an educational platform where all the interactive courses and materials developed in the project could be downloaded. Two institutions working on a daily basis in the area of child and youth support were involved in the project. The best practices and experiences of the Icelandic partner in the area of methods for supporting children at risk of exclusion/children with different needs were taken into account.

Interest in the project significantly exceeded expectations (more than 3,000 people took part). The short-term effect, as measured in the evaluation survey and described in the pilot report, is an increase in the knowledge and competences of teachers and pupils participating in the pilot. In the long term, we assume the impact of the educational tools and materials in further groups of children and young people. The tools and materials will be promoted to educators who evaluated them very positively (quantitative survey and group interviews).

Summary of bilateral results

As an entity that cooperates with various stakeholder groups (government agencies, research centers, various entities of the educational system), the Partner from Iceland - the Heimili og skóli – landssamtök foreldra Association, made it possible to include a different point of view in the Project. The partner contributed primarily knowledge in the field of supporting children, including children with disabilities. Virtually every substantive material has been analyzed by the Icelandic association; best practices from Iceland were taken into account. The partner contributed primarily:- information on the educational systems in Iceland;- valuable comments on the presentation of content for people with disabilities;- recommendations regarding educational formats;- sharing research results from universities in Iceland regarding education using mobile tools.
