Description
The project aims to develop and strengthen international cooperation between the Opole University of Technology (OUT) and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU).
The project involves the departure of 4 academics from the OUT. As part of the trip, it is planned to create an international research team dealing with the problems of large-span soil-steel structures, as it is widely analyzed in Norway and Poland. Due to the specificity of the load on the structure, appropriate relieving elements are sought for these structures, therefore this topic is very important. The research group from the OUT deals with the analysis of the impact of EPS blocks and geogrids on the relief of soil-steel bridges. On the other hand, the first works containing an analysis of the impact of EPS on the concrete culvert, from 1987, conducted by prof. Jan Vaslestad (NMBU). Prof. Damian Bęben contacted the Norwegian side, which resulted in the organization of a special session on soil-steel bridges during the international conference IAMBAS 2020 in Sapporo, Japan (https://www.iabmas2020.org/special_sessions.html) and it is planned to jointly organize a similar session at the IABMAS 2022 conference in Barcelona. Due to the much greater research and practical experience of the Norwegian side in the field of application of relief elements, mainly EPS, the trip of OUT employees will largely help to better understand and learn about the specifics of laboratory and field tests. During the planned visit, a tour to the laboratory is planned, as well as a visit to the tested bridges in the field, as well as discussions on the numerical and experimental analyzes carried out so far. With the scientific background and experience of both institutions, it will be possible to develop joint valuable publications in prestigious international journals based on research conducted by both sides of the project.
Summary of project results
The project was implemented in accordance with the approved scope and schedule. The project organized a 5-day (including 2 days for travel). Study Visit to the Host Institution Norges miljø-og biovitenskapelige universitet NMBU in Norway, which was attended by 4 participants from the Beneficiary Institution. The Beneficiary and the Host Institution are planning a joint research project under the HORIZON program. The main objective of the study visit was to create an international research team, dealing with problems of soil-steel structures, which was to include scientists from the Opole University of Technology and NMBU. This goal was achieved 100%, and the work of scientists from Poland and Norway proceeded smoothly from the beginning of the project.
Summary of bilateral results
The Beneficiary declared that it received sufficient organizational and substantive support from the Host Institution during the project. As part of the dissemination of knowledge about participation in the project, two scientific articles of international scope were developed with the participation of the entire team.
