Description
The subject of the project is the renovation of the main body of the Goszcz palace, in terms of structural protection of the walls of the building structure in the form of permanent ruin, conservation of the details and execution of works aimed at limiting the irreversible devastation of the preserved historical monument together with adaptation of the building for tourists, including the construction of a viewing platform, installation of monument illuminations and monitoring cameras. The project will be implemented by the Twardogóra Commune together with a partner from Norway.
It should be emphasized that the execution of elements of the cultural and educational offer will be possible if the infrastructure works are carried out, because currently the Goszcz palace is completely out of use due to its very poor technical condition.
The implementation of the works provided for in the project will create a space which will be the centre of cultural and social life of Twardogóra Commune, as well as an attractive place for tourists who will not only be able to visit the unique historic Goszcz palace, but also participate in local cultural events related to the local history. After the completion of the project, the palace and its immediate surroundings will host numerous cultural and educational events, including exhibitions, history lessons, performances, artistic events, shows and tastings, concerts, festivals, workshops and gastronomic shows, open-air painting and photography shows, multimedia shows, mobile lectures, field games, Festival of historical reconstruction groups, small open-air concerts, games for adults and children, dance lessons from the Renaissance era, art classes.
Summary of project results
The project implemented by the Municipality of Twardogóra aimed to improve cultural heritage management by creating appropriate conditions for cultural activities, both in terms of cultural infrastructure and cultural offerings. The main aims:
• Preservation of the Palace in Goszcz as cultural heritage for future generations;
• Carrying out conservation, restoration, and construction work to make the palace''s space available for cultural activities, adapting the palace infrastructure to the needs of people with disabilities, and increasing the energy efficiency of the palace during its use;
• Strengthening human potential for cultural activities – improving the competencies of cultural sector staff through participation in training, professional development, and the creation of new jobs in the cultural sector;
• Building a high-quality cultural offer for the Municipality of Twardogóra by developing a program of diverse cultural offerings tailored to different audience groups, increasing public participation in culture, including the involvement of people with disabilities, ethnic and national minorities, fostering local community integration, preserving the locality, traditions, and culture of the Municipality of Twardogóra for future generations, and developing so-called creative industries and cultural industries that support cultural activities;
• Enhancing the development of the Municipality of Twardogóra in terms of cultural tourism by creating an effective system for promoting the cultural offerings of the Municipality of Twardogóra, building the image and identity of the Municipality of Twardogóra, developing tourism in the area, and organizing cultural events that serve as a catalyst for the economic development of the Municipality of Twardogóra.
The project included both renovation and construction works (securing the walls of the main building''s structure in the form of a permanent ruin to prevent irreversible destruction, constructing a viewing platform, installing illumination, cameras, a photovoltaic system, and accessibility features for people with disabilities), as well as installation and conservation works (detail conservation). Additionally, it featured a rich cultural and educational program, along with the renovation of the roof, facade, and ground-floor interior of the adjacent building No. 4 (the eastern connector), where is a lapidarium.
Thanks to the restoration and revitalization of the historic palace in Goszcz, the building has been reopened to residents and tourists. A rich program of cultural events was designed for entire families, primary school students, teenagers, adults, seniors, as well as ethnic, cultural, and LGBT minorities. Cooperation with the Norwegian partner provided an opportunity to exchange best practices and experiences, as well as to promote the project, benefiting both the residents of the Municipality of Twardogóra and Oslo.
Summary of bilateral results
Gmina Twardogóra gained practical skills in implementing sustainable practices, enabling it to apply innovative solutions to local challenges. The partner also benefited by gaining insights into the recipient country''s context, challenges, and approaches, enriching its understanding and practices.What is more, the bilateral aspect of the project increased its visibility both locally and internationally. Norwegian partner’s involvement highlighted the significance of sustainable practices and the success of cross-border collaboration, attracting interest from media. Moreover, the successful outcomes of the bilateral cooperation provided a model for similar partnerships in other regions. In addition, the cooperation facilitated cultural exchange, fostering mutual understanding and respect between partners. This exchange contributed to a broader appreciation of the importance of global collaboration in tackling challenges connected with restoration and historical buildings. The meetings in Poland and Norway facilitated also meaningful interactions between experts, local authorities, and community members.
