Description
The main purpose of the project is the development of readership in Poland by means of raising competences of library employees, with the use of the innovative tools in the area of new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and exchange of good practices developed mainly with the partner from Norway. The effect of the project will be the book of good practices and its implementation in the activity of the Raczyńscy Library. The effect of the project will be the development of the library as the institution building active relations between a reader, creator and literary critic, development of entrepreneurship as a result of the project’s realization in partnership with start-up from the creative and culture sectors.
OPERATIONAL GOALS:
- Building the competences of the managers and employees of the public libraries, as well as other institutions involved in the development of the literature in the scope of:
- innovative methods of choosing novelties for the libraries, cataloguing and making the library resources available,
- innovative methods of recommending the literature for the readers on the basis of their expectations and texts of the books borrowed and purchased,
- using a network of book-machines in the areas with low availability of libraries.
- Development of the library as an institution building active relations between the reader, creator and literary critic, development of entrepreneurship in the result of the project realization in partnership with start-up from the creative sector and culture.
- Development of new strategies for the promotion of reading.
EVENTS:
- People of the Book Festival (Festiwal Ludzie Książki).
- AI in the service for the libraries.
- Webinars “Innovative on-line tools. Poland – Norway. Exchange of good practices”.
- Trainings and workshops for librarians on using the recommendations tools.
Summary of project results
The main problem during the project implementation were the restrictions related to the epidemiological situation in our country. For this reason, the Poznań Book Fair was not held - instead, we participated in the online BookTarg fair. Moreover, the pandemic meant that the People of Books Festival and a study trip to Norway had to take place only in 2022, unlike previously planned in 2020. 21 As part of the People of Books Festival, some events took place online
The main goal of the project is to develop reading in Poland by improving the competences of library employees, using innovative tools in the field of new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and the exchange of good practices developed together with a partner from Norway.The result of the project is a book of good practices, and its implementation in the activities of the Raczyński Library in Poznań will serve as a kind of case study for libraries across the country. The effect of the project is the development of the library as an institution building active relationships between the reader, creator and literary critic, and the development of entrepreneurship.The following activities were implemented:1. Building competences of managers and employees of public libraries, as well as other institutions involved in the development of literature in the field of:• innovative methods of selecting and purchasing new items for libraries, cataloging and sharing library resources,• innovative methods of recommending literature to readers based on their expectations and the content of borrowed and purchased books,• using the network of book machines in districts with low availability of libraries.2. Organization of events as part of the People of Books FestivalThe People of Books Festival is a series of artistic, educational and promotional events organized by project partners in Poznań and in regional urban centers of the Greater Poland and Warmian-Masurian Voivodeships.The main theme of the Festival was building in-depth and active relationships between readers and creators from Poland, Ukraine (e.g. Oleh Poliakov) and Norway (e.g. Jo Nesbo, Roy Jacobsen), translators, editors, illustrators, literary critics and bloggers.
A total of 119 artistic events were carried out as a result of cooperation with the partner. Number of recipients of cultural and artistic events - 16 230. Number of people (artists, specialists) involved in the project - 100. Number of trained professionals - 252.
Summary of bilateral results
After completing the project, the Partner will be involved in permanent cooperation with the Applicant and Polish partners. Cooperation will take place in the field of exchange of knowledge and experience. It is assumed that the Festival inaugurated as part of the project will be organized in the following years after the project ends, and NORLA will cooperate in its organization. The role of the partner will be to invite Norwegian creators, critics and translators and to conduct the part of the Festival devoted to Norwegian literature. After completing the project, the Applicant and partners intend to continue to cooperate in developing innovative methods of communicating with readers and managing library collections. NORLA will be involved in this work by testing selected solutions in Norway.
