Description

In the Skawina commune (Małopolskie province) a mere 50% of inhabitants participate in local votes, and the same people constantly engage in voluntary initiatives or town councils. At the same time, we are facing the problem of smog which can be reduced only if the attitude of the local community changes and its environmentally friendly behaviours are strengthened. For the last couple of years our commune has been participating in the STOP SMOG programme, but we have to reinforce it by engaging the local population to a larger extent.Wishing to address these challenges, we will organise meetings to start gardens in selected housing estates, as well as flower meadows. We will run a series of consultation meetings aiming at establishing the Youth Council of Skawina. We will also start a Little Leader Academy teaching children teamwork, activism and ecology, as well as Active Young Citizen-Leader Academy helping youths learn how to run social campaigns. We will also organise a Neighbour Day with a field game and will invite all commune inhabitants to it.

Summary of project results

In the Skawina commune (Małopolskie province) a more 50% of inhabitants participate in local voted, and the same people constantly engaged in voluntary initiatives or town councils. At the same time, we were facing the problem of smog which could be reduced only if the attitude of the local community changes and its environmentally friendly behaviours are strengthened. For the last couple of years our commune had been participating in the STOP SMOG programme, but we had to reinforce it by engaging the local population to a larger extent.

Responding to these challenges, we organised meetings which resulted in the creation of gardens on selected housing estates and flower meadows. Together with the Parents'' Council and the Headmaster of Radziszów Primary School, we created a Green Day Care Centre. We also created the Little Leader Academy, where we taught children about teamwork, taking initiatives and ecology. We also started a Youth Active Citizen-Leader Academy, where we taught young people to create social campaigns. We also organised a Neighbours'' Day with an outdoor game, to which we invited all the male and female residents of the community. Finally, we held a Final Event where the project coordinator presented a summary of the project.

From the evaluation questionnaires, we know that the level of knowledge of the participants on topics related to civic activism and its tools has increased. In addition, a closer cooperation between the Council and the Directorate emerged through the joint work on the Green Room.
