Description
The aim of the project is to purchase a new mobile wharf crane in the field of green innovation and to digitize and partially automate the loading process, as well as to introduce data processing in general and bulk cargo loading.
As the demand for energy efficiency is growing, the company assessed the increase in customer needs and demand for more energy-efficient technologies and a more energy-efficient loading process.
A mobile crane will be manufactured and adapted to the company''s needs, as well as a cargo handling system will be developed for the company''s needs, which will include an integrated weighing module, an automated weighing process and a digitized sawn timber handling and storage process.
Summary of project results
No significant challenges.
In response to the demand for more efficient cargo processing, using the most energy-efficient resources possible, the decision was taken to purchase a new mobile wharf crane in the field of green innovation and to digitize, partially automate the loading process, introduce data processing in general and bulk cargo loading. Previously, the company did not have this type of equipment, which was a challenge to go through as there are a lot of details that should be taken into account to adapt to our operations.
To improve cargo handling speed and energy efficiency, the company has installed an electrically powered crane and introduced a special system to digitize and automate the cargo handling process or cargo weighing, handling and storage. The mobile wharf crane was purchased, installed and tested.
This electrically powered crane has about 80% less emissions and 60% less energy consumption compared to a similar fuel powered machine.
The importance of the project is also proven by the Freeport of Riga Authority that notice that for several years, digital issues have been among the top priorities also for the Port’s Authority, which is responsible for the whole port’s territory. It means ensuring both data and information security and smooth run of processes. In addition, digital solutions also offer new benefits, and we will share this information with port’s clients to stimulate their activity and operation to become more competitive and efficient.
The project implemented in collaboration with donor state partner. Achieved results for Co2 emission reduction by 164,46 tonnes per year; energy savings 438,52 MwH per year; two jobs created.
Summary of bilateral results
The company organized the experience exchange trip to the cooperation partner in Norway, the company NorStone AS, on the use of new innovative green technology and digitized warehouse accounting, taking into account the modernization measures planned by SIA "Jaunmīlgrāvja ostas kompānija" within the framework of the project. As part of the business trip, representatives of SIA "Jaunmīlgrāvja ostas kompānija" visited Stavanger at NorStone AS, mutually sharing their experience in storage of stone crushed stone cargo, warehouse farm, transportation in a warehouse, delivery to the ship''s loading area and loading / unloading from the ship. The Norwegian partner was given a presentation of the project of SIA "Jaunmīlgrāvja ostas sabiedrība", as well as within the framework of cooperation, the partner presented its innovative ship project, for which hydrogen is used as fuel, thus discussing other green innovation projects. It was important within the project to have a donor project partner because a significant part of the cargo handled comes directly from and goes to the Scandinavian countries.
