Description

The goal of the project is to expand in the range of natural and certified products produced by MADARA Cosmetics with new and innovative products with reduced environmental impact. The implementation of the new products will promote the growth, competitiveness and added value of MADARA Cosmetics for the Latvian economy. The introduction of new products and technologies will create additional four jobs, increase exports, reduce the company''s environmental impact and improve the efficiency of production processes in the life cycle of both existing and new products for at least five years after the project, generating a total CO2 saving of 26.70 tonnes or 34% of the total initial CO2 in the process. Within the project, it is planned to involve the cooperation partner Norwegian non-profit research institute SINTEF AS, which is one of the largest independent research organisations in Europe. The institute has more than 2,000 employees who develop thousands of projects for clients of all sizes every year. The Institute carries out applied and fundamental research, usually in direct collaboration with local or international producers. The project envisages the purchase of four machines, implementation of research and knowledge transfer activities in cooperation with the Norwegian cooperation partner SINTEF AS, implementation of development activities related to the introduction of new products and technology, providing for compensation of employees, as well as project information and communication activities.

Summary of project results

No significant challenges were addressed during the project implementation.

The project implemented and resulting to complement the existing assortment of natural and certified products produced by MADARA Cosmetics by developing product range with new, innovative products with reduced environmental impact. The realization of this project contributes to the company''s growth, competitiveness and added value for the Latvian economy. The introduction of new products and technologies has created four new job positions, 2 of these positions are filled by workers in a disadvantageous situation. Increased exports up to 80%, as well as reduced the company''s impact on the environment by reducing CO2 emissions by 5,34 tonnes/year and improved production efficiency of processes in the life cycle of both existing products and new products.

Several innovative products were developed - Hydrogel moisturizer with marine origine alginate, pressed powder products with natural and COSMOS certified ingredients, products for people with sensitive skin type. Customers have been introduced a new type and sustainable one dose packaging solution.

 

Summary of bilateral results

A Norwegian project partner, SINTEF AS was involved in the implementation of the project. The partner has been actively involved in the implementation of the project including a study with cooperation partner Norwegian non-profit research institute SINTEF AS. In this study, innovative methods used to develop hydrogel-based moisturising products with improved sensory properties. We conducted a study on the extraction of alginate of marine origin and incorporation into gel-type cosmetic products.
