Description

The main aim of the project is to reduce project promoter''s negative impact on the environment and at the same time increasing company’s competitiveness. Despite the fact that the project promoter continuously invests in technological and non-technological solutions to reduce the negative impact on the environment, the production process of kiln dried firewood still requires significant energy resources. Especially the main production processes – the drying of firewood, which accounts for about 51% of the total electricity consumption and about 75% of the biofuel consumption, as well as the associated emissions of carbon monoxide. The project will introduce a firewood drying technology that will reduce the firewood drying time by almost 30%. Changes in the firewood drying process will significantly reduce the amount of electricity and biofuels used in production, as well as the amount of pollutants (carbon monoxide) emitted into the environment. It will also bring significant benefits to the customers of the company – faster turnaround of customers orders, higher product quality, better value for money.

In order to modernise the production base, reduce the negative impact of production activities on the environment and conserve natural resources, the project promoter intends to purchase and introduce innovative high-temperature convection wood dryers in the production process.

The partner from Norway will provide consultations on reducing negative environmental impact and introducing environmental technologies into production processes. After implementation of the project, the partners are planning to further cooperate in the field of green industry innovations.

Summary of project results

A step forward was taken in order to reduce the negative impact on the environment – by improving the technological process of drying wood, the company was able to reduce the cost of electricity, biofuels used in production, and at the same time the amount of carbon dioxide released into the environment.

The goal of the project was to reduce the negative environmental impact of the company’s operations and conserve natural resources. UAB “Vli Timber” initiated this project, in which innovative high-temperature convection wood drying kilns was acquired and implemented in the production process.

During the project, environmentally friendly technologies were implemented, allowing the company to reduce the use of natural resources and the emission of pollutants into the environment, thus minimizing the negative environmental impact of its operations. The project’s results also contributed to enhancing the company’s competitiveness, such as faster order fulfillment, higher product quality, and increased production efficiency.

Summary of bilateral results

The installation of convection drying equipment, developed on behalf of Vli Timber, was supported by the Norwegian company, which works with the world''s largest manufacturers of firewood. The company, which offers innovative wood packaging solutions, is planning long-term cooperation with Lithuanians – its representatives will contribute to the creation of the wood drying process, participate in the installation of purchased dryers, as well as analyze the saving of energy resources consumed at the same time.
