Description

The Applicant, company Geoprojekt d.d. was established in 1991 and its headquarters is located in Opatija (Primorsko-goranska county). The company''s main economic activity is quarry business. The company has two quarries located in Istra peninsula. Within these quarries the company performs quarry exploitation, and has one stone processing plant. In order to ensure the quality of the products and meet the regular audits requirements, the company has its own laboratory.

This is an investment project that aims to contribute to increased competitiveness, value creation and sustainable growth of the Croatian quarry industry through green industry innovation. Investment is in the innovative new technologies for better exploitation efficiency of the quarry and the better quality of stone and mineral products.
New equipment will enable Geoprojekt d.d. to:
1. Plan and design more precise and effective mining blasts in order to reduce the tailing occurrence, to increase the production capacity, and to have a higher rate of clean separation of technical stone aggregates from carbon mineral mass for the increase of revenues
2. Find, precisely calculate and then use the occurred tailings and sediments from the blasts.

Summary of project results

The company owns and operates 2 stone quarries. Todays business processes are arranged to meet the requirements of capacity based on both quarries, and are rather obsolete. The mining blasts are not precise, and lot of mass is scattered, while unprecise mining often causes holes in the field which are later either filled with rainfalls and not visible, either cannot be precisely distinct inside for difference between grey mass and white carbonate mass, or from other potential rock mass. This brings to the need of overall Careful EXPloitation of the field – and thus the project name CareEXP came from this motive. The company is investing in new equipment to optimize existing exploitation field in stone quarries, and to shift the production process towards sustainable development and more green production.

Project Output Indicators were successfully achieved and the company acquired following equipment: Network of vibration and noise recording instruments; Instruments for monitoring and planning the quarry exploitation and Specialized software for automatic fragmentation and 4. automatic weight bridge.

All the equipment was installed and put to operation by employees who were trained and gained new skills in operating new and sophisticated equipment.

Outcomes are expected to be reached after 2027, and the Green Indicators after 2024.

Expected Outcomes are to be reached by 2027 in comparison to 2021

  • Estimated annual growth in turnover: 19% in 2027, in comparison to 2021
  • Estimated annual growth in profit: 125% in 2027, in comparison to 2021
  • Jobs created: 3 by 2027, in comparison to 2021

Green Indicators:

  • Tonnes of CO2 saved: -34,8 by 2024 in comparison to 2021 (as a result of diesel fuel consumption reduction for machinery in the quarry, which is decreased based on reduction of effective working hours of the machinery)
  • Tonnes of material saved: -918 by 2024 in comparison to 2021 (as a result of reduction of tailings waste)
